adriana's pov

here i laid in oakley's arms. bare skin to bare skin, fingers interlaced. he placed a kiss on my forehead before bringing me closer to him. i felt so content in this moment.

"what color is your dress for tomorrow?" oakley asked me. i pursed my lips. "it's a baby pink color.." i answered. "alright. i'll get a matching tux in the mornin'" oakley said.

i smiled to myself but dropped it. i almost let myself forget that i was supposed to be going with johnny, too.

i mentally facepalmed and sighed. "what's wrong?" oakley looked down at me. i shook my head, "nothing." i'll take care of all that in the morning i guess.

"so oakley when did you get a new car?" i asked trying to change the subject. "well, ricky helped me" oakley answered. "it was the day i got bonded out."

i nodded in understanding. "and who bonded you out?" i don't care anymore, i'm going to pry for answers. after a few moments of silence, oakley cleared his throat.

"well adri... if i'm bein' honest... you're grandma helped me out with that" oakley said, adjusting himself in the bed. my eyebrows knitted together in confusion.

my grandma? helped oakley? and didn't tell me?

i removed myself from oakley's reach and sat up in bed. i held my bedsheet to cover my naked body.

"why didn't you guys tell me?" i asked him. oakley licked his lips, almost as if he was going to marinate his next lie.

"it's complicated adri, it really is" oakley insisted. "what is complicated?" i raised my voice.

"this! this is complicated! my life is..." oakley replied, matching my volume. i became quiet.

"you know what they're sayin' adri? they're sayin' i killed that guy from the party.. that i killed him" he emphasized that last part. "he's dead."

"i-i" i didn't know what to say. oakley stared into my eyes. "i took off for a while, i visited with my dad and his people" he trailed.

"that's all you need to know. but i'm here now princess" he grabbed my hands to hold in his. i didn't know what to think.

oakley is truly a murderer.

he kissed my hands then gestured for me to crawl back into his arms. i stayed where i was, almost in fear. but i didn't want to call it fear.

if i let myself label it that way, i wouldn't feel safe anymore. oakley makes me feel safe.

after a minute, oakley yanked me into him with great strength. i stared into space almost trying to disassociate.

"don't be afraid princess. i did all of that just to protect you."

my mind took me back to seeing johnny all beat up last month. i'm pretty sure his football uniform had blood soaked into it that day. i gulped.

i let myself remember how oakley is the only person who's ever fought this much for me. quite literally.

"you're mine for as long as i live" oakley spoke. i closed my eyes. "i'm yours for as long as i live" i replied. "that's what i like to hear" he smirked at me.

i grabbed my phone to check the time.

4:55am

"i think i'm gonna try to get some more sleep" i told oakley as i adjusted the covers. "okay princess" oakley replied.

i shut my eyes for a bit in hopes of falling asleep quickly. i have a big rest of my day. i've been waiting for it for as long as i can remember.

oakley's pov

everything i told adriana was the truth. there's still a lot that i haven't told her but for good reason.

everything should play out accordingly. all i need to do is stay out of trouble for as long as i can.

i let adriana fall back asleep but i stayed wide awake.

after a few hours, i got up from adri's bed and began to get ready for the day. before leaving, i sat close to adri as i shook her softly awake.

"hey princess, i'm gonna take off right now" i told her. adri groaned in her sleep and muttered "okay." i silently chuckled to myself.

i promptly left her house with a full plan to purchase a tux for tonight. i entered my car and pushed start. i searched for the nearest tux shop.

all i want to do is make this night special for adriana. right now, she is my top priority.

i parked in front of the boutique and walked in.

"hello there, can we assist you with anything?" a woman behind a counter asked. "uhh, yes, do you guys have any tuxes available?" i asked.

"yes! a specific color in mind?" the woman asked me. "something light pink or with that color of detailing" i answered. "i'll check in the back" she cheesed before walking off.

i stayed behind and walked around the store. i saw a familiar guy in the back, trying on a light pink tux.

"excuse me, sir?" the same lady walked over to me. "we do have one pink detailed tux available, but it will only be available after tonight" she said.

"after tonight?" i repeated. she nodded, "we just had someone rent out the last one today!"

i walked closer to the back and saw it was none other than johnny alvarado wearing that same tux.

oh. someone's goin' to die today.
