Theme: Fluff

Note: Do they even have a ship name.. Also no, the title does NOT imply death oml 😪

"It's.. is it over..?" Hinatsuru whispered.

Tengen was by Master Kiriya, tending to the young boy. Suma trembled in anticipation then—

"Yes. Yes, it's finally over," Kuina mumbled. (nah bc when I looked up Kagaya's children's names Kuina's was the only one that didn't show up 💔 So i did her ofc)

Everyone held their breath for a second, as if waiting for something bad to happen. But nothing did, and, with shaky voices, they started cheering. Quietly at first, then louder.

"Quickly, we must tend to the master!" Shinjuro said after a moment.

Nobody wasted a second more in scrambling around to help. They split, half to stay here and find more medical supplies, half to go off to the rest where all the Hashira and demon slayers, dead or alive, were. Those who went to the Hashira were Shinjuro, Tengen, and Sakonji (Urokodaki) all three having been former Hashira, so able to get there faster.

Eventually they reached the site, Sakonji falling a bit behind, and the three men were quick to register the situation. Had something happened? What was everyone crouched around? They asked the nearest person who told them Tanjiro Kamado had become.. a demon. Had.. had he killed anyone?

Tengen rushed forward but he found that everyone was crowding around Tanjiro. How had he not crumbled to dust?

"What's happening here?" he demanded, seeing Giyuu there as well.

"Tanjiro became a demon. The.. he was immune to the sun. Tsuyuri had one more of the.. she just turned him back human. He's.. he's not awake yet, though," Giyuu mumbled, his face turned away from Tengen.

Tengen was shocked but he waited with the rest. Everyone held their breath as the seconds past on. And then—Tanjiro's eyes opened, although fleeting. Then again. And again. Everybody let out cheers of relief and instantly people started getting back to work. They tended to those injured and not yet bandaged. Tengen quickly took up the job of carrying the most injured to the group of Kakushi doing their best to nurse them to life.

Around him, everyone was shouting, talking, whispering comforts and good byes. They would mourn those who they'd lost but they had to try and heal everyone not yet lost, otherwise they'd have more who would go. So they quickly scrambled from one side to the other as they pushed everyone through the pain to live.

It was hours before everyone had been evacuated to Shinobu's mansion, to hospital beds. Before the Kakushi had finally started to clean up the city and all of those who had fallen in the fight were being mourned.

A wave of grief passed Tengen as he watched the Hashira being taken to the place they would soon be buried. But a hand was placed on his arm and one to his back. He turned and saw his wives smiling sadly at him. "It's over, Tengen. They died young, but they died saving us. Don't be sad too long, just be greateful they were here," Hinatsuru murmured.

Suma agreed and hugged Tengen tearfully. Makio stood by them, her arm around Hinatsuru as the three women comforted their husband.

"Yes. Yes, indeed. And they'll want us happy, that's why they found," Tengen sighed, relaxing against the other's touch.

It would be a while before he truly stopped grieving but that didn't mean there would be no time for being happy.

Time skip, several weeks<33 (I got lazy lmao)

Tengen laughed as he and his wives walked down the path. They'd been told Tanjiro had finally awoken that morning and had wanted to see him. The four entered the Butterfly Mansion and were greeted by Aoi who had been passing by, her arms full of trays she was bringing to the kitchen.

"I'm assuming you're looking for Tanjiro, no?" she asked, nodding to all four of them.

"Yes, would you mind directing us there?" Hinatsuru asked.

"Is he still in the same room?" Makio added.

"The same room, mhm, down the hall to the left," Aoi said, pointing them in the correct direction.

"Thank you!" Suma called out, as the four of them headed to the room.

They entered and were talking happily to Tanjiro and Nezuko when Shinjuro and Senjuro entered.

Tengen smiled as Senjuro instantly was at Tanjiro's side and the talking in the room grew louder, but in a pleasant way.

"It seems like it's been so long, yet it's only been a month," Shinjuro mumbled.

Tengen agreed, watching Makio say chase Suma around the room. "At least we lived to see it end, no?"

"Yes, yes we did," Shinjuro sighed, resting his back against the wall.

"How have you and Senjuro been?"

"We've been well, and you?"

"Still coping but pretty good, too," Tengen smiled. He nodded to himself. "It's nice being able to.. to have fun, just to be good and not have to worry about it being the last time I will be. We're not immortal but at least we don't have death so close we're practically inviting it in, right?"

Shinjuro nodded absently. "Even retired it was still worrysome."

"Yes, and I thought I wouldn't worry as much but not being directly in the fighting just gives you more time to worry." Tengen shrugged.

Shinjuro smiled slightly. "I wish I worried more. I spent more time.. Ah, how to say this.. Drowned in my own worries."

Tengen nodded. "Just take care of Senjuro now and.. I'm sure Kyojuro would forgive you."

The two lapsed into silence as they watched the others talk. Eventually they had to go and Shinjuro walked to Senjuro, waving to Tengen.

Tengen and his wives left a couple minutes later, promising to see Tanjiro again soon.

As they walked, Hinatsuru said, "They seem really happy, hm?"

Makio nodded, laughing as Suma nearly tripped on her own feet. "Yeah!"

"Be careful, Suma," Tengen sighed, helping Suma steady herself.

Makio ran off ahead and Hinatsuru's soft laugh carried through the air as the four left the estate. Suma clung onto Tengen who just walked forward, amused at his wives antics.

Once the three got home, Suma was quick to hide in their room and she locked the door so Makio wouldn't be able to get to her. Tengen rolled his eyes with a laugh and went to the kitchen accopanied by Hinatsuru. He sighed and leaned against the counter. Yes, it was truly very nice to have this sort of.. of freedom. Peace. For the first time in a long, long time.
