"Here, WEAR THIS!!" Inosuke demanded, slipping off his boar head and jamming it onto Zenitsu's head.

"Hey-" Zenitsu whined. He took it off, fanning his face. "This thing stinks... When did you last wash it?"

Inosuke blinked, his green eyes so innocently wide. "Wash it?"

"Let me guess—never," the blond deadpanned.

Inosuke grinned. "Yep! Didn't know you were smart, Sojitsu!"

"My name is Zenitsu! And what do you mean by that?! You're the one who always gets names wrong anyways!" he grumbled. "I'm going to wash your mask before you become a flea nest or something."

"What?! Noo!! You're going to ruin it if you wash it," Inosuke complained.

"I'm going to make it better," Zenitsu corrected.

They were near a river so he dumped the mask into it, scrubbing profusely at the fur. The whole time, Inosuke whined about how it was making it worse, berating Zenitsu for cleaning it.

After he'd finished, Zenitsu left it out in the sun to dry, hanging it over a branch.

Tanjiro kept them busy, making them food for lunch and then the three raced each other for a bit.

Eventually, Inosuke complained about not having his boar head on making him dizzy so Zenitsu retrieved it, finding it a lot cleaner and dry.

"Alright, you should clean it more it looks so much better," Zenitsu said, shoving the mask onto Inosuke's head.

"You messed it up!" Inosuke shouted, shaking Zenitsu. "It's weird!!"

"It was worse before!" Zenitsu shot back, sighing.

"Don't fight," Tanjiro fretted.

"Tell him to clean his mask more!" the blond said, crossing his arms.

"Tell him it doesn't matter!" Inosuke protested.

"Ehm... But if you clean it, you won't get all... icky?" Tanjiro offered.

Inosuke huffed and headbutted Tanjiro. "Die!" he shouted, stomping away from the two.

"...He'll get around," Tanjiro said.

"Yeah, no, he won't," Zenitsu replied, rolling his eyes.

Throughout the whole day and night, Inosuke told them over and over how he hated it cleaned, saying Zenitsu had ruined the whole point of the wild-animal mask.

Eventually he stopped bringing it up and Zenitsu vowed he wouldn't clean it again if he'd have to endure Inosuke's complaints about it.

But it was strange because, though Zenitsu had only washed it that one day, it remained oddly clean for a while, somehow. It hadn't even rained recently which was probably the sole reason it would've ever gotten cleaned.

And then Zenitsu figured out why this was because one day, after coming back from a solo mission—Tanjiro was on his own one and Inosuke had gotten injured recently so he was just minding his own business and wandeirng around—he'd found a river as he was returning to where he, Inosuke, and Tanjiro were staying. He'd followed it upstream, bored, and had heard Inosuke muttering to himself somewhere higher up.

He'd found him, hunched over the river, scrubbing at the inner parts of his mask which was submerged underwater.

Zenitsu had burst out laughing when he'd seen this, realizing this was the reason Inosuke's mask had been so clean all the time.

"Admit it! You prefer it clean!! You can't say otherwise now," Zenitsu said, grinning.

Inosuke flushed and threw his mask out into the field, water splashing him as he did so.

"Shut up! I don't!" he huffed but Zenitsu could hear the lie loud and clear in his voice.

"Hm, whatever you say," he teased.
