Things had been disappearing recently from the Tsugikuni household. Obviously, it was a thief. Nobody who had direct contact to inside their house would do this, especially since it was already theirs.

They didn't have bodyguards because they'd never bothered with them—or more like Michikatsu and Yoriichi were expected to be able to take care of themselves being both boys nearing adulthood.

So someone had to be sneaking inside, past the security cameras, and stealing their things.

And unfortunately for Michikatsu, he was put up to the task of staying up at night to find whoever it was.

Michikatsu had dropped out of school (much to his parent's disappointment, but he hadn't given a fuck and had already acquired a job anyways, which had interfered with his studying) which meant he didn't need to be stressed about some stupid thief ruining his sleep schedule.

Yoriichi had offered to help but their parents had given him a hard no and made him go study.

Not that Michikatsu was all that jealous of him, but he just would rather sleep.

But now he was stuck pacing around the front door and the windows at night, waiting for something to happen.

The first night, absolutely nothing happened. When he was awake, at least. He'd fallen asleep half way through the night and woke up with his mother scolding him and his father irritated that the thief had stolen something again.

The second night, Michikatsu lasted a lot longer since he'd slept during the day—he'd been given a day off for work—and he was energetic when he'd woken up. Nevertheless, he'd not caught the thief yet again, albeit they'd managed to steal a box of jewlery somehow through the night.

The third night, again, he made no progress. This continued on for a while before Michikatsu finally met this thief for the first time.

He had been wandering around his house quietly, his ears perked and catching every small noise around him.

He'd hidden in a corner of his room at one point, hoping he'd catch the thief red-handed.

And then his window had opened.

A boy—a lot smaller and thinner than Michikatsu had thought he would be, although perhaps that was how he got around the security cameras—slunk into the room, searching.

Michikatsu held his breath, wondering what he should do.

The boy looked around, his eyes catching on something out of Michikatsu's vision. He turned away from him and Michikatsu moved slightly, hoping to catch him.

But then, quick as light, the boy was at Michikatsu's side, a small pocket knife at his throat.

"Oh... You're Michikatsu Tsugikuni, then?" the boy said. He looked about Michikatsu's age. Perhaps a year or two younger.
