It was three days before Sanemi got a crow back from Giyuu saying that he was free. Which meant that Tanjiro must've been hovering around him for three more days. Godfuck was he a nuisance.

Sanemi arrived at Giyuu's house quickly, not wanting to leave any room for Tanjiro to come and bother him again. He knocked on the door after a moment's reluctance and waited, fingering with the buttons of his uniform as he waited. A minute later, the door opened to reveal Giyuu in all his adorable glory. Giyuu bowed his head slightly in acknowledgement, opening the door further to let him in.

"You wanted to talk, right?" Giyuu asked, eyeing him with unveiled wariness. Honestly, Sanemi couldn't blame him. It wasn't like he'd been a charm to Giyuu before.

"Yeah. Uh, Kamado's not here, right?" Sanemi confirmed.

Giyuu nodded. "I made him leave to get his check-up at Kocho's," he said calmly. He guided Sanemi to the kitchen. "Are you thirsty? Or hungry? Tanjiro made some snacks for me earlier—he's very good at cooking, did you know that?"

Sanemi hummed, not wanting to talk about Tanjiro right now. "Right. I'm not hungry, no. Anyway, about what I wanted to talk about...?" he prompted, waiting for Giyuu's full attention.

"Mhm?" Giyuu looked mostly unconcerned. Obviously he'd deduced this to have anything to do with something urgent because if that was the case, Sanemi would've sent a crow or told him a long time ago, regardless of the restraint.

"Uh... I wanted to ask you out," Sanemi said, deciding to just put it out there. How else would he do it? Though it sounded lame now, having built up suspense for a week and just... throwing it out. Oh, whatever. Too late now. Especially since Giyuu was staring at him as if he'd gotten a concussion.

"Ask me out...? Are you- Did you phrase that wrong?" Giyuu asked, still in his denial stage.

Sanemi sighed. "No, I didn't. But if you want clarification, I'm asking you to be my boyfriend."

Giyuu spluttered. "But- I- I thought you hated...? Are you sure?" he asked, a pretty pink flush rising in his cheeks that made Sanemi feel better. At least he wasn't the only one suffering.

"Yes. I wouldn't be asking if I wasn't sure," Sanemi assured him. "I thought about this. A lot. Too much. So just respond. Don't ask more questions."

"Oh. Oh, uhm, okay," Giyuu mumbled. He looked away, considering. "Is this what you wanted to ask me this whole time?"

Sanemi rolled his eyes. "Answer, Tomioka."

"Right." Giyuu fidgeted with the sleeve of his haori, averting his eyes. God, Sanemi wished he could read his mind. What was going on there?

"Look, if you want to say no, then go for it. I won't get mad," Sanemi promised. He would probably be upset, though. And at this point, it wouldn't even be the rejection. Just that all the worrying and fretting and getting mad at Tanjiro would go down the drain.

"No-" Giyuu said quickly. "No, I don't- It's not that- I'm just... surprised."

Sanemi raised an eyebrow. "Yes or no?"

"Oh. Right," Giyuu repeated.

Sanemi tapped his foot impatiently, crossing his arms. This was taking too long. "I'm seriously just gonna leave if you don't respond. Or take it as a no."

Giyuu nodded slowly. "I'm sorry. Yeah, I... I do want that. To date, I mean," he said, speaking much too fast. "Sorry, I'm- I didn't think you... also? Liked me? I think. You do like me, right-?"

Relief flooded Sanemi despite his promise not to be angry and he relaxed. "Yeah. Yeah, I do," he agreed.

Giyuu looked up, finally meeting his eyes. His face was the red of his haori and Sanemi understood why he'd been avoiding his gaze. Giyuu looked more nervous than Mitsuri at her first Hashira meeting. Briefly, Sanemi wondered when Giyuu had last dated anyone. He wouldn't be surprised if he'd gotten other asks before, but he presumed that Giyuu hadn't accepted any of them, wanting to keep his distance. Or had he just not liked any of them? Did that make Sanemi different? In some way??

"I like you... too," Giyuu said quietly.

Sanemi nodded. Fuck, now it was all awkward. "I'm... glad."

For a moment, they just stood there, staring at each other without a clue of what to do. Then, abruptly, there was a knock at the door, followed by a loud: "GIYUU-SAAAAN!!"

Well, shit.
