Present day.
Location: Johto
We pick back up with Ash, Brock and Misty. Finally back together after being away for so long. Our trio are headed to Johto through the trail between Kanto and Johto but the trio have found themselves very lost and don't know where they are. Suddenly, while walking around, the trio see the legendary Pokémon silhouette of Suicune.
The trio chase after the mysterious beast but end up getting even more lost before falling down a hill and landing inside the town of New Bark Town. The trio are suddenly found by a young boy by the name of Jimmy and his Poliwhirl. Jimmy introduces himself and recognizes Ash as he had watched the Indigo League on tv.
Ash, Brock and Misty ask Jimmy about where Professor Elm's lab is and Jimmy tells them to follow him as the four walk to his lab. Ash, Misty and Brock are introduced to Elm who studies where Pokémon came from with him becoming interested in Togepi. Ash gives the GS-Ball to Elm who says he will study it but it might take some time. Elm says he needs some help around the town and Ash, Brock and Misty agree to help.
Later that day, Elm is giving out starter Pokémon to brand new trainers and Jimmy gets his first Pokémon being a Cyndaquil. Everything is going great until Team Rocket attacks in a attempt to steal the starter Pokémon. Ash, Misty, Brock and Jimmy team up against the Team Rocket and defeat them making them blast off again.
After the ceremony, Ash, Brock and Misty are sent on another job which is go to get the new updated Pokédex's from Mister Pokémon so that Ash can get a updated one. As Ash, Brock and Misty head out, a mysterious person is shown watching Elm's lab.
Ash, Brock and Misty head out to Mr. Pokémon's house and when they arrive they discover that Professor Oak is there hanging out with Mr. Pokémon. While there, Ash grabs his Johto Pokédex and a brand-new PokeGear and the trio head back to Elm. While the trio were gone, a mysterious figure with a Sneasel breaks into Elm's lab and steals a Totodile but is just barely not caught by Elm as he runs away.
While walking back to town, Ash gets a call on his PokeGear from Elm that reveals that he has been robbed when suddenly the trio bump into the mysterious robber: a man with red hair.
