Ash, Misty and Brock are still on their way to Violet City and traveling through a forest. The trio find themselves very lost with no idea of where to go until they run into another trainer. This trainer is revealed to be Gary and Ash and Gary reunite.
Gary explains that he is here late at night trying to evolve his Eevee into a Umbreon which can only be done at night. Ash, Brock and Misty decide to help him with Team Rocket watching the four fighting wild Pokémon and training.
During their training, the Team Rocket trio kidnap the group's Pokémon but Eevee saves the other Pokémon and evolves into Umbreon when sending the trio blasting off again.
Ash, Brock and Misty ask Gary if he wants to continue with them to Violet City and he agrees wanting to seeing how much Ash has now changed. Ash also gains interest in getting a Eevee of his own.
