Ash, Brock and Misty learn about the Charizadic valley nearby Violet City which is a haven for Charizards. Ash and Charizard think it could be a great way for training and Ash and the group end out heading out to it.
When they arrive there, Charizard falls for a shiny Charizard that is owned by a trainer Liza. Liza is the caretaker of the valley and she reluctantly allows Ash's Charizard to train there for a time. The Team Rocket Trio learn about the valley and think they can go there to steal a bunch of a charizard's to bring back to the boss. Ash and Charizard begin their training at the valley but they find that Charizard is really underpowered and he feels out of place there and runs away as Ash goes out to chase them.
While Ash is gone, the Team Rocket Trio attack the valley. Ash and Charizard hear about this and head back to save the valley. Ash and Charizard send the trio flying back away. Ash, believing that Charizard should be with other Charizards and Ash released Charizard out into training before running away crying as Charizard says goodbye for now.
