Ash, Brock and Misty walk around Violet City with Brock learning that he needs a metal coat to evolve his sonic into its brand new evolution: "Steelix." Ash and the group learn that they can get a metal coat if they climb up the Sprout tower and fight all the trainers.
Team Rocket learn how powerful Steelix is and believe they should steal from Brock and take the Metal Coat so they can keep it.
Ash and Misty allowed Brock to do the tower as he beat every single trainer leading up to the top of the tower where they find that the leader has been defeated and that somebody has already stolen the Metal Coat with the person being revealed to be Silver.
Team Rocket attempt to steal all the Pokémon at the tower but Ash, Brock and Misty defeat them before heading out to stop Silver. Ash catches up to Silver and the two have another battle with whoever wins gets the metal coat. Ash beats Silver and gets the Metal Coat.
Ash and the group meet back up with Sage Nico and Brock trades with him so that he can evolve Onix into Steelix. Team Rocket Trio end up getting their hands on a Bellsprout and James catches it after it evolves into a Weepinbell.
