Byleth and Y/n had spent hours, if not days spending time with one another.
Byleth would walk into the room she was resting with a tray with some biscuits and some of her favorite tea. The two haven't left each other's side since then, and luckily for her, thanks to Ashe, who have been maintaining the front lines.
Y/n was in a predicament on her own. Five years had passed. Five years is a long time.
On that day, that day where she thought she lost him for good.

"The Professor has been lost to the chasm. Lady Edelgard." Y/n's brother bowed, his hand holding his sister down. She was lost in thought. Her gaze buried into the ground. Edelgard only sighed at the sight. Y/n's brother's wish was only for his beloved sister not to be part of this war, yet here she was.
"Things would have been better if the Professor were to join our side. Perhaps things would have been easier for you. Y/n." Edelgard turned her to face a still dragon. Luckily, with the amount of soldiers present, they were able to weaken and overwhelm Rhea.
"For now, keep Y/n in a cell."
"But Eddie-"
"Ray, I won't mistreat her. She is an important family to you. I am not that cruel" Edelgard said, turning to face Y/n again, "After all, she needs some time to mourn."
Y/n had only remain silent during the whole trip back to the empire. Locked in a cell. Alone. Her classmates were nowhere to be seen. Her home was gone. She had held her head in between in her arms, legs holding her arms up as she just stared at the cold stone ground of the cell. Who knows how long time as passed, nor how the war above was going. Here and there, she would see an occasional guard or two run through the halls of the dungeon, hearing about some people sneaking in or needing backup in the front lines.
One night. One night was all it took for her to finally do something for once instead of morning. She was mad at her brother and Edelgard. Who on earth thinks war is going to solve everything? Y/n finally stood up from her spot, observing her cell. At the front of the door, there was a tray with food. Little fancier than your normal prisoner food, but it looked gross nonetheless. She had looked behind to see the iron bars that kept her in. A small window, probably large enough for her to slide right through, moonlight pouring in the cell room. Cold. It was very cold. It was beginning to fall around this time she believed. She held her hand to touch one of the bars, it's cold touch bringing her shivers down her spine.
"Eddie... Ray.." She mumbled to herself. She had to stop herself from crying again. She was so hurt. In pain. Only for that cold touch of the iron bar to be replaced with a warm touch. She looked up too bright green eyes locking into hers. Byleth? No. The hand was warm, but it was small.
"Y/n. Are you alright?" A voice called out in a hushed tone. She knew that voice, it was someone she was close to when she was younger. A boy she ran into at a shop in a village. She didn't really approach him at the monastery, she wasn't sure if it was him.
"Ashe? What are you doing here? It's dangerous." Y/n whispered back, walking closer to the window. Her toes pushed her up to get closer to the window.
"I am here to save you. Well, not just me." Ashe said, before turning to look behind him, "Annette, Mercedes, counting on you."
Y/n heard a quiet yup.
"Stand back Y/n. It's going to be a bit rough" Ashe said as he pulled away from the window and Y/n doing the same. Some hushed whispers can barely be heard as Y/n leaned against the furthest wall from the window. Soon the red light glowed brightly. Y/n realized what was going on and quickly ducked her head. A full fiery explosion caused not only the window, but the entire wall to be destroyed. Smoke and dust filled the room. Y/n wondered if she should look up only to turn to see Ashe break her chains with an axe. Without another word, Ashe came to her side and lifted her up. A bright pink tink came to her cheeks, before looking at Ashe. Before she said a word, Ashe flashed her a small smile before quickly running through the smoke and out into the forest.
