You're chilled out I'm so hyper
On paper we're a disaster
And I'm driving you crazy
It's my little gameI push you and you push back
Two opposites so alike that
Everyday is a roller coaster
Well I'm a bump you'll never get over!Shut up & Kiss Me - Orianthi
When I couldn't sleep, I went outside and practiced throwing basketballs. I always feel like it's a good counter against any curses the Demon could have casted on me. The sound of the ball going through the net and the sound of the ball hitting the back were the only sounds of this calm night.
I grabbed my water bottle from the side and took a drink wiping off the sweat. I was finally feeling tired. I looked up when I suddenly felt like I was being watched. I didn't see anything except for the small light that casted through the Demon's window from the night light. Ugh...what am I doing? That's it. I'm going to go take a shower. I tossed the ball in my arms back as I walked toward the house when I heard the swoosh sound of the net making me stop in my tracks. I turned around immediately as my eyes landed on the ball rolling away.
"Did I..? That was so freaking awesome!" I shouted, "Did you see..." I looked around to find myself completely alone. "Aw, come on! How could I do something that cool and there's no one around to see it?! No one's going to believe me without witnesses."
"Peter, what the hell are you doing?!" I heard Dad shout. I turned looking up at him. He was my last hope.
"Dad! Dad! Did you see it?! Did you?" I jumped motioning to the basketball net, "tell me you saw it! You saw it, right?! Tell me you saw it!"
"I don't know what the hell you're talking about," Dad complained, "get your ass in the house and go to bed already." I let out a sigh.
"Yes, sir," I replied frowning making my way in the house not bothering to look back at the net. Next time, I'm waking Mikey's ass up to join me.
I didn't realize how necessary sleep was going to be for the next day. Otherwise, I would have just asked Mikey to knock me out. It seems that after a year and a half of saying he was going to do it, he finally did it. Mikey told the Demon that he wanted to take Stacy to the dance. Had Michael gave me a fair warning, I would have known what to expect. But he didn't.
I just saw the Demon, looking more like a ghost, walking down the hallway looking completely broken and frazzled being pushed and trampled by everyone trying to get to their next class. She was looking down at the floor. Some strands of her blonde hair falling into her face while her arms clutched to her books like if her life depended on them.
"Hey, move it," some jerk shouted shoving her to the side. I had luckily already managed to get close enough to catch her and pull her into the lockers pinning her against them as the crowd went through. I continued to watch the jerk memorizing his face so I knew who's ass to kick later. The Demon didn't bother look up at me. I waited till there were only a few stragglers in the hall after the late bell rang.
"What's wrong with you?" I retorted. "Since when do you let anyone push you around?"
"I...I just...I just don't understand what I did wrong," The Demon's voice shook as she continued to stare down.
"What?" I said confused pulling away slightly trying to see her face. Her body was slightly shaking. A tear fell from her cheek splashing into one of her textbooks. Shit...Mikey's usually the one calming her tears and fixing her. Me? I don't know what to do in this kind of situation. I usually deal with the abusive side of her. I prefer that side of her hundred times more than this. "Are you seriously crying right now? Look, let me get Mikey, just wait-"
