And this kind of pain, only time takes away
That's why it's harder to let you go
And nothing I can do, without thinking of you
That's why it's harder to let you go
But if there's a pill to help me forget,
God knows I haven't found it yet
But I'm dying to, God I'm trying to
It's trying not to love you, only goes so farTrying Not to Love You - Nickelback
Helena and I were messing around in the library. Our history teacher had brought us in during class to look for resources for our paper that was due next Friday. Helena laughed as I held the book away from her and pointed to my cheek.
"Okay," she replied getting on her tippy toes and giving me a kiss on the cheek, "now can I have my book?"
"I don't know, does that mean I'm officially forgiven?" I replied.
"Forgiven?" She laughed, "Like I'd forgive you that easily."
"Then let me make it up," I replied, "no group date, just you and me."
"Last time, you left me as the third wheel," she replied. "I can only imagine how I'd look with just the two of us."
"That was a month ago," I said. "Come on, give me a chance."
"I'll take it under consideration," She replied holding out her hand, "my book?"
"I'll take it under consideration," I replied. She gave a teasing smirk as she playfully swung at me. I dodged before smiling and giving her the book.
"Come on, let's find something for you," she said grabbing my hand. I let her pull me back toward the historical shelves. She was looking through the shelves for a resource for me. I noticed Mena a couple feet away standing on her tippy toes reaching for a book on the top shelf. Without thinking about it, I walked over to her. I reached up and grabbed the book.
"Hey-!" She turned around ready to fight for the book, but she cut herself off, when she saw it was me. Ever since our fight in the woods, I avoided her as much as I could and I kept my word. I didn't care anymore. So even when she looked for me or looked like she needed it, I ignored her existence. So I could understand why she was surprised to see me. I couldn't really understand it myself. But I guess it was just a moment of vulnerability on my part. I guess even if it was for a second, I wanted her attention.
"This one?" I asked holding out the book. She nodded her head. I smiled at her before placing the book on top of the shelf, higher than before. I walked back to Helena who was shaking her head.
"You're just an ass to everyone, aren't you?" She said as I walked back to her.
"It's my specialty," I laughed as I put an arm around her and led her away. "come on, probably have better luck in the next aisle."
By the time we were lining up, the teacher had asked me to go get Mena who apparently didn't realize it was time to go. With reluctance, I went looking through the aisles.
"What are you doing?" I frowned when I caught her climbing up a shelf reaching for the book I put on top of it.
"What does it look like?" She retorted. "Almost...got it!" I noticed the way the shelf began to sway.
"Get down," I replied rushing to her. I managed to pull her down and shield her as the shelf came tumbling down. I grabbed the other shelf and held it steady as I felt my back get struck. When I opened my eyes, I looked at Mena who seemed to still be in shock, but other than that, I was relieved to find she was completely unharmed.
"Oh my heavens," I heard the librarian say. "Are you alright?" I turned my body slightly trying not to crush Mena as I shoved the shelf back into it's place. I ignored the pain shooting up from my back when moving my arm and shoulder. For an empty book shelf, this thing was still slightly heavier than I imagined.
