Christmas Love

"To my biggest fan, my wife, my love, my life, you have never let me down from the very first moment I met you, and I hope I haven't as well. I love you."

The scent of vanilla, cinnamon, cloves, hot wine and chocolate filled the Hunter-Ramsey household, the entire apartment decked in Christmas decorations and scented candles.

Of course, with courtesy of Blue, who had gone all out, with her excuse being that it was hers and Ethan's first Christmas as a married couple. Despite his utmost nonchalance to Christmas in general owing to the Grinch that he was, even Ethan could not refute that sentiment.

He had given his wife full reign, as she had wanted to host Christmas Eve dinner for them and their parents, which included Naveen of course, like they had the previous two Christmas eves.

Their friends were celebrating Christmas with their own families, and they were set to come together for a small celebration of their own a few days later. Therefore, Ethan and Blue were content with celebrating with just their parents tonight as well.

Blue filed into the kitchen, followed by the scurrying of Jenner's paws against the marble tiling as she took out the potato gratin she had made from the oven, setting it aside on the counter which was filled with Christmas cards and gifts, all from the staff and patients back in the hospital.

"Babe! The gratin's ready, you can put your chicken in now!" she called out to her husband, who was in charge of their main course that night, a well-seasoned chicken roast. Blue stifled her laughter as Ethan padded into the kitchen, his face adorning a scowl.

"Don't you dare laugh, I'm only wearing this because of you." he told her, gesturing to the ridiculous Grinch jumper that she had very convincingly made him wear.

"I don't know Dr. Ramsey, the resemblance is truly uncanny." she teased in response, pointing out the scowl on the Grinch's face that resembled his own's at that moment.

"Hilarious." Ethan rolled his eyes with a shake of his head as he set the timer on their oven before placing the chicken that he marinated into it. He glanced at the fluffy brown paws that clung onto him, before letting himself break out into a chuckle. He bent down to pick the excited pup up, having a good look at the little elf outfit his wife had put him in. "You didn't even spare Jenner."

"And look at him, he's not complaining like you." Blue laughed, turning from the food she was preparing to regard both of her boys. "You two look adorable."

"And it's only fair that you join us in this lunacy." Ethan replied, his hand finding the hem of her plain black hoodie, pulling it up almost insistently, only to have his hand swatted away by Blue with a laugh.

"Calm down, I'll change into it right after I'm finished with this." she gestured to the food she was plating.

With a chuckle of his own, Ethan kissed her cheek, before setting Jenner down and helping her with the rest of the food, allowing her to slip out to change into her own ridiculous Christmas jumper. As Ethan was about to set the table, he caught sight of the wide array of Christmas gifts that Blue had placed on the counter when she had arrived home from work earlier that day.

It was not unusual for all the staff to exchange cards and gifts during seasonal and festive periods, no matter how much Ethan detested having to clear them all and donating without even reading them. However, his wife appreciated them all, and always read and acknowledged them before giving them away as well.

He had a few share of his in the pile she had brought home, and despite his indifference to them, he dug through some of them, appreciating some of the wishes from the older nurses while rolling his eyes at the ones that were clearly from nervous interns who idolized and had starry eyes for him, but were far too nervous to wish him seasonal greetings in person. Not every intern could be as daring and vivacious as his wife once was.
