Kuina furiously enters the room. She's shaking and her breath is so irregular that the girl seems on the verge of fainting.

"Go away! Come on" her voice almost cracks

"What?" (Y/N)'s hands are still firm on the bird's body.

The little animal suddenly got animated, and now he's trying to get rid of that gentle grip.

"You heard her, you gotta go!" Zoro hastily grabs (Y/N) wrist, and she suddenly stiffens.

The girl watches the boy in the eyes.

"What happened?" She asks with a firm voice.

"It doesn't matter, your father... you have to go!" Kuina dashes toward her friends with pure worry in her eyes.

"(Y/N) listen to me, you need to go" She's acting cold.

The youngest slowly leaves her grip on the little bird, still uncertain about what to do.

If her father comes in, he will certainly punish her.
But if she's here, maybe her friends won't face any consequences.

The bird scampers away from the little girl but falls off the table, smacking on the ground.
A slow lament comes out of the animal's narrow beak.

Zoro's fingers are still wrapped around (Y/N)'s wrist.

"Let's go" he takes her hand in his.

(Y/N) let his friend guide her. She doesn't want to resist, but her instinct tells her this isn't a good idea.

It's not fair.

"The bird..." is almost a whisper

"You'll think about it later - Zoro drags her out of the house - your father doesn't  have to know you're here"

His eyes fall on the girl's arms. Big burns are poorly covered under her robe.

It made him so angry, he wanted to kill her father with his own sword.

"Is not fair" (Y/N) yelps, finally becoming aware of what was going on.

"Is not"

"Then what are you doing?" the girl suddenly stops.

Zoro is forced to turn around and look at her.
He doesn't like to run away either, but he knows that against that pirate even Koshiro wouldn't stand a chance.

The little girl had been sneaking away to go to her friends for many years.

The father, who spent time with (Y/N) just to punish her or teach her how to fight, never really controlled what his daughter did during her days.

He limited himself to disciplined her every time he discovered the little girl was in the company of the two sprogs.
Violently disciplined her.

But now that she was all growing up, the pirate was afraid that (Y/N) would take too much awareness and confidence.

He was pulling up his successor and a possible traitor are the same time.

He couldn't allow her daughter, because of two stupid kids, to abandon him.

He was aware that he couldn't, out of nowhere, stop (Y/N) from seeing those kids, the balance that had long allowed the village and the pirates to coexist would have broken.

The village leader could have taken the opportunity to foment a riot.

The pirate knew that any clash with Koshiro would inevitably lead to the death of some of his comrades.
And even if he had won over the village, which the man was no longer so sure about, it was not worth making half of his crew die.
So he kept letting his daughter wander, the only exception was the pirates that followed her every movement.

"This is not about me, you know it" Zoro squeezes her hand.

(Y/N) doesn't know what to do.

She would like to face her father but her body, even if it's trained, doesn't allow it.
She would like to help Koshiro, who seems disappeared.
She would like to have enough courage to choose for herself without having to follow the life already planned by her father.

Her eyes move quickly in the space.

She also squeezes her friend's hand, almost an involuntary reflex.

"(Y/N)?"

Zoro receives no response.

The girl had spent so much time with Zoro and Kuina, that every time she forgot how much the father hated that friendship.

One time the pirate discovered the tree hanging out near his home, and the days after (Y/N) almost didn't have enough strength to leave the house.
Her burnt legs couldn't support the weight of her body.

Her workouts became harder and harder, but in addition to the increase of the girl's strength, the only other consequence was the hate towards her father that grew in her chest.

She would never draw her sword against anyone.

"I hate him" The words of (Y/N) aches the boy's heart

"I know" Zoro didn't like how the pirate influenced his friend.

She doesn't hate.

Maybe some things really bother her, she's very stubborn and even immature, but the hate feeling doesn't suit her.

"But Kuina told us to go. Koshiro probably has the situation under control."

"Yes but..."

"(Y/N)"

"Mh?"

"Trust me - Zoro smirks - when I'll become the greatest swordsman in the world..."

(Y/N) looks away exasperated.

"... you can say that I was the one who saved you"

"You didn't save me. It was Kuina!" The girl teases her friend.

Zoro frowns but fails to hide the smile that has formed on his lips.

"Let's go"

(Y/N) nods, and hand in hand the two move away from the house.

How strange - thinks (Y/N) - I can't hear the the bird's chirping anymore.

A loud explosion blows up Koshiro's home.
Fire and flames surround the house.
