I thought that I was dreamin' when you said you love me
The start of nothin'
I had no chance to prepare, I couldn't see you comin'
The start of nothin'
Ooh, I could hate you now
It's quite alright to hate me now
When we both know that deep down
The feeling still deep down is good

Arm around my shoulder, so I could tell
How much I meant to you, meant it sincere back then
We had time to kill back then
You ain't a kid no more
We'll never be those kids again
It's not the same, ivory's illegal
Don't you remember?

We didn't give a fuck back then
I ain't a kid no more
We'll never be those kids again

As soon as the sun peeks over the horizon greeting the crystal-clear sea with its rays, Luffy walks out onto the open-air dock, cheeks stuffed with the stale bread he found in the ship's hold, followed by Nami, ready to once again try opening the safe and get her claws on the map to the Grand Line.

Zoro and Y/N are passed out next to each other just a few steps from the bow. The two had spent the whole night drinking together, staying alert, ready to spring into action if anything happened. They kept each other company, forcing themselves to stay awake, because neither of them trusted the other. Zoro was afraid that if he fell asleep he'd be saying goodbye to his hair once and for all, because he knew full well Kai might set his head on fire just for the fun of seeing him bald, without much care for the risk of burning his face off, too. Kai, on the other hand, knew that if she let her guard down even for a second Zoro would throw her overboard, probably after cutting off her arms and legs to make sure she wouldn't survive by swimming. So at the end it hadn't exactly been a friendly night. Far from relaxed, the two had spent the whole night sizing each other up, resisting the urge to start throwing insults.

But now, under the sunlight, they almost look like close friends. Y/N's hair brushes against Zoro's shoulder, and it even looks like her head is gently resting there. Their breathing is heavy, and their tired faces, now finally relaxed in sleep, show that even the strongest warriors can't beat the night, not after a couple bottles of wine for sure, and end up falling asleep.

Kai's slightly parted lips twitch: the second Luffy and Nami step out of the hold, she wakes up suddenly, placing a hand on her cheek.

"Damn, I slept like a log" Kai thinks as she wipes the corners of her mouth. Then, like something hits her all at once, her eyes widen and she pulls away from the pirate hunter. She jumps up, almost panicked at the thought that Zoro might wake up and find her head on his chest. Clearing her throat and coughing loudly, clearly embarrassed, she acts like a teenager caught staring at their summer crush.

"Did you slept well?" a mischievous smile creeps onto Luffy's face.

Kai tries to play it cool and shrugs: "As good as you can on a ship like this. Anyway— she brushes a strand of hair off her face - that safe? When are we opening it?"

"You don't get a say" Nami steps in, hands on her hips and an accusing look on her face.

The pirate sighs, knowing the redhead was right. Her wrists still ache from how heavy that damn safe was.

"I was about to get to work by the way" Nami kneels in front of the precious chest, dead set on getting her hands on that damn map that had been such a pain to get.

"Do me a favour and shut up, would ya?" Nami doesn't mince words and shoots a sharp glare at the two awake crew mates, clearly not in the mood for small talk.

Y/N pulls a slim cigarette from her pocket and rests it lightly between her lips, watching Luffy climb the mast like a curious little animal. Her gaze is cold and distant, but she doesn't miss a single move from the "wannabe pirate" as she slides her fingers along her belt and pulls out a small metal lighter. It was the first one she made with her dad long time ago, when she was just a little kid. Back when it seemed like there was something real between them—a bit rough at times, sure, but at least to her it felt like some kind of fatherly bond. Y/N was too young to train in those years and those moments spent with Burnt Hand almost felt comforting.
