Y/N MAXWELL

The date for the Yule Ball was nearing faster than a Zouwu could run and I still didn't have a dress to wear. Part of me regretted not sending my parents an owl, but then again, I didn't want to stress either them out or have them rushing around for something that wasn't as important as other things.

I will be the first to admit that I am pretty picky when it comes to certain things like this, but if I didn't decide on a dress soon I'd miss out on attending one of the most extravagant events of my schooling years.

"I don't want to come off as ignorant, but the ball is tomorrow and you still don't have a dress, (Y/n)." Lilia's words made my lungs tighten. "I know, you don't have to remind me."

"Sorry, but you did tell Lyle that you had one... he's expecting to see you there." A frown formed on the blonde's face, making a sigh exit my lips.

The whole dress situation was completely stressing me out. I hated lying to Lyle about my dress, but what else was I supposed to do? Say something and have him worrying about it just as much as I was? Or have him offering to pay an obscure price on a dress I'd only wear for one night? Which might I add, he's already done more than once.

"I know, but I don't know what I want to wear." My eyes met the floor as the two of us stepped inside the Gryffindor Common Room. "You don't really have the choice to be picky. Why don't we head over to Madam Malkin's Robe shop after lunch?"

"I'd probably cry seeing the dress I wanted gone." A frown formed on my face at the thought of somebody else wearing it.

"Come on, (Y/n), you'd look amazing in any dress you squeeze yourself into." Lilia nudged my shoulder as the two of us walked up the stairs to the female dorms. Her words made a smile suddenly appear on my face.

Lilia was the type of person to say the right things at the right moment. Now, she was guilty of saying terrible things at terrible times, but those were very rare and usually unheard-of occasions.

As the two of us continued to indulge ourselves in our dress conversation, the both of us came to an abrupt stop upon entering my dorm room and noticing a large black, present-like box resting on top of my red bedsheets.

"Expecting mail?" Lilia remarked as the two of us strolled over to get a closer look at the neatly arranged package. "No. I wasn't expecting anything at all."

It'd be a complete lie if I were to say I wasn't on edge after what had just happened to Linda. I didn't like making assumptions but what if she thought that I had something to do with it and was trying to get back at me?

Lilia nudged my shoulder snapping me out of my little daydream, instantly bringing me back to reality, "Are you going to open it?"

"I suppose, but if I stop breathing I want you to know it was probably Linda," I remarked, making the girl suddenly laugh. "Are the two of you still bickering about Aiden?"

"Of course not. He made his decision. Who am I to try and tear the two of them apart? Besides, I haven't spoken to Aiden in a long time." I stare down at the neatly wrapped box, praying to Merlin that it's not filled with spiders or scorpions.

"Wait there's a note on it. You've got to read the note before opening the present." Lilia pointed out a white piece of parchment slipped in behind the golden ribbon wrapped around the black package. "Seriously, you're one of those?"
