"emerge from darkness, blacker than darkness." geto whispered and put a curtain over the area so that the mission could begin. not that it couldn't be done without one, but that was the number one reason why the two boys got detention back at school since they were too careless most of the time. though, you certainly weren't going to be a part of it, which is why you forced him to do it quickly in a corner. well, that and to protect the eyes of the average civilian from possible confrontations with curses (the real reason why you put up curtains).
you looked up at the abandoned building from the outside and sensed a dark energy hiding behind the calmness it radiated. "what is the rank of the curse?" you finally asked when geto caught up with you.
"supposed to be a special grade." he answered with his hands inside his pockets and looked around the area of the abandoned company for a bit. "some big shot built his headquarters here a few years ago. the property used to be a cemetery for the state until they decided to sell it out of nowhere." he said and couldn't help but look a little disappointed at the greed of some. "the people whose relatives were buried here protested, of course, but that didn't really help much, and digging up corpses that are already decomposed for the most part can also be quite annoying i guess..."
your face had a slightly horrified look on it as you listened to the details. no wonder why he said that it would not be a good idea to inform you about it on the train. talking about jujutsu techniques in front of normies makes you sound like dumb nerds, but with horror stories like this, you could attract some unwanted attention. like mothers with young children, for instance. "so they're still buried here?" you whispered in disbelief, feeling a little nauseated standing on the concrete poured over a bunch of dead people. "no wonder the place is cursed. i mean, come on. you can't do shit like that and then expect nothing bad to happen."
gojo sidled up to you slightly. "don't tell me ya scared or something?" he said with an arrogant smile, not worrying a bit about anything.
you put your hand on his face to push it away from you. "of course i am. how can i not with your ugly face this close?"
he took an offended breath at your statement. "don't lie like that. other girls would die to even get a glimpse of this pretty face from this close!"
you tucked a strand of hair behind your ears. "well, i'm not like other girls." you said wryly, enjoying how uncomfortable it made the two of them. you loved delivering that sentence exactly because of that. "also, i can't really help it. your eyes are so...blue. it feels like you're staring into my soul or something. it's really creepy. and right now, the darkness gives them this weird glow, which gives me goosebumps. can you maybe put your sunglasses back on or something." you asked, shooting arrow after arrow into his heart. not even his infinity could protect him from your merciless words.
geto looked at his friend, who layed bleeding on the ground with a large wound over his chest. in a kinda metaphorical sense, but he really wasn't that sure. his big ego was his one weakness, after all. "i think you killed him." he finally said, looking down at him.
you turned around in confusion until you saw the scene before you. "come on! don't be a drama queen."
"i'm not! you're just really mean!"
he doesn't take this whole thing seriously, like at all. shouldn't we be more professional? you ignored his whining. "whatever, i'm going in." you announced and walked ahead without waiting for the other two.
geto watched as satoru quickly got up to catch up to you and then followed him. "wait for us! it's dangerous in here. you can't just waltz in like that. we're supposed to act as a team." satoru called out behind you after he entered the building.
you rolled your eyes. "why should i listen to you? shoko told me that you're always the one doing solo stunts, which, by the way, really gets on her nerves."
satoru was caught a little off guard at what you said and it took him a second to retort something. "that doesn't mean it's right. i'm very aware of my own flaws, even though i have virtually none. but with the few there is, i'm very aware."
this was really hard to watch, though it was also a little funny how his best friend was making a fool of himself. geto leaned in a little as he spoke in a low voice. "you know, if you're worried about her, you can just say that. i think she would appreciate hearing it."
satorus eyes widened slightly at what he heard, and he quickly looked to you to see if you had heard any of that. luckily, you were too busy pushing on doors to see if any of the rooms had anything suspicious to offer. "don't say stuff like that when she's around, man." he whispered somewhat aggressive to the dark-haired one who just grinned amusedly. "you know what? don't say anything at all 'cause i don't want to hear it. not from you."
geto laughed lightly. "come on, don't be so nervous. it's gonna to be okay, just lighten up a little. she notices you acting different, you know?"
blue eyes watched your figure further ahead, and he let out a sigh at what he heard. "i can't help it. i've never had a crush before..." he whispered. "i just want it to go away so everything can go back to the way it was. i don't want to ruin our dynamic, you know? i like the way it is or like, i think i do?" he said a bit confused himself. the thought that he couldn't kiss you if nothing changed entered his mind.
i do want to kiss her, though...
hearing his best friend pour out his feelings like that made geto pat him on the back comfortingly. he's worrying too much, as usual. "hey, don't worry too much about - "
your voice interrupted their moment as you turned to the back and screamed out, "stop flirting with each other and hurry up already! i think i found something!" you finished and cracked open some door to enter the room.
the two of them looked at you worriedly when you just walked in without a second thought, as the door started to close behind you. they quickly ran to follow you, but they didn't make it in time. "i told you to wait for us!" satoru exclaimed and yanked the door open the moment it closed, only to find a completely empty room before him. his gaze looked a little uneasy into the void as he spoke to geto. "this is gonna be a problem, isn't it."
the black-haired boy only sighed as he rubbed his forehead. "i guess so..." he uttered. "i know she doesn't necessarily watch horror movies, but what made her think that was a good idea?"
satoru didn't give an answer to that and went ahead to walk out of the room with a slightly heavy heart. there was no reason to stay since the room had no other doors and the windows were shut down. "i don't think she was thinking. let's just keep checking the building for the curse." he suggested with a slight smile as he felt guilt and anger rising inside him for how inattentive he was for only a few minutes. and look what that led to. "shouldn't take too much time to kill it."
