Sammy's POV:
My name is Samantha Alston, I'm 16, five feet tall, I have blonde hair and blue eyes, and absolutely hate boats. Oh, I'm also running away to my Grandmother's.
It all started a month before school ended, but it had been building up to this point for over a year. My parents fought constantly about everything. They argued about bad parking jobs or the way the other ate even about the color of the toilet. Eventually I was let out of school and was now home all the time, simply because I had no friends. They ran out of things to yell about so they would yell at me.
A week ago I had enough of it. School was about to start again and the yelling got worse. I called my Grandmother Vivian, she took me in like she took in my brother Lennox, she got me enrolled in the boarding school Lennox has been at for past two years, and I hopped on a boat to London, England. I left a note for my parents on my bed, packed all my books, and looked for the next flight to London only to find out how broke I am. Turns out impulse buying books and snacks has consequences, so I could only afford to buy a one way ticket to London on a little fishing boat.
I sat on deck of the boat trying to keep my chips down while the captain hummed loudly. We went over a series of big waves and here comes the chips.
I ran to the edge of the boat and held onto the railing. As I tossed my chips, I could hear the captain shouting something.
I lifted my head and shouted back, "What?"
"We're here a little earlier than planned and don't throw up on my boat!"
I sighed and walked under the deck to grab my bags. This was going to be fun.
I paid the man and got off the boat as quickly as my shaky legs would let me. I sighed glad to be on solid land after six days on a boat. There on the land was my brother, grandmother, and three guys I don't know.
I dropped my bags to the solid ground and ran as fast as my legs would allow me. I hugged my brother tight as my grandmother laughed at us in the background.
"I missed you." I whispered. I hadn't seen him since he left because my parents said we never had time.
"I missed you to but why are you here? Grandmother said you needed to come here." He pulled away from me and looked seriously into my eyes.
"I'll tell you later."
A throat cleared behind us. I looked at my grandmother closely. She still looked like she belonged in a movie with her elegant white hair, high cheekbones, and the same piercing blue eyes I had. She was wearing a white pencil skirt with black blouse and a large wicker sun hat. She had on the golden jewelry I would play with as a kid and beautiful expensive heels that made her just tall enough to look over my head.
"Dear, I'm so glad you're here." She wrapped her arms around me in a comfortably familiar hug. She looked like a cold, rich women but her hugs showed how warm and welcoming she was.
I was about to cry all because of her hug. My mother used to hug me before Lennox left. I took a deep breath and smelled the lavender detergent she's used since I was kid.
She pulled away and grabbed my face. My lip started to tremble and a tear slipped out of my eye. She wiped the tear with her thumb and kissed my forehead. "This isn't the time to cry, My Dear." I nodded and sighed with a smile. "Now you have some people to meet."
