Maddie pov

Once the police get to graces house she hangs up.

That's where my job ends.

I speak with the person.

I ask all the first questions

But my job ends when help shows up.

I used to be there in the middle.

When i worked in the hospital i knew everything that was going on.

I knew how most of the emergencies ended.

I knew if they died or lived.

I knew everything about each emergency.

Sometimes i miss working in the hospital but sometimes im glad i dont have to deal with that anymore.

The stress of knowing if someone dies or lives.

The stress of knowing every little detail about every emergency.

To be fair i still hear about it from buck all the time but i like it because no part of it is ever in my hands.

Unless i type some information in wrong but luckily that hasn't happened knock on wood.

I hope they find graces brother.

But as much as i hope that for her i also hope that for me.

I need us to find buck.

I feel useless and guilty that im not out looking for him but i do know that I need to stay here and do my job.

I feel a hand on my shoulder.

"Maddie?" Its josh

"Hmm?"

"Maddie you ok?"

"Yeah why wouldn't i be?"

"You spaced out."

"Oh. Sorry ill do better."

"No maddie take a break that was a tough call for someone who isn't missing their brother that was perfectly described by that caller. But for you please take a break or go home or something."

"I cant i was instructed to keep working regardless of what is going on in my life. I need to be here for everyone else who has problems."

"Maddie your brother is missing. Usually circumstances for keep working regardless of your problems dont include a member of your immediate family going missing. Take a break go to the break room talk it out go to a therapy session something that means you aren't sitting in this chair. Please."

"Fine. Im staying at work but i wont sit here."

"Thank you maddie. Sue wants to see you by the way."

"Did you tell her?"

"No. But i think someone did."

"Thank you josh."

josh smiles at me and i walk to sues office.

Thanks for reading this chapter this arc is so random im so sorry also I probably wont mention what happens to graces brother or grace in the next chapters so ill just tell you that he gets found and is completely fine so grace and her brother are reunited but buck is still "missing"
