Ryan continued to drive the JLTV out of Yokota Air Base, in the passenger seat sat his XO Jackson Hughes rests his M4A1 to the side of the door. "You've seen the news a few days back? Heard they've got elves and some sort of god who looks like a child. Magic's a big thing there for them"
Ryan sort of gives a small laugh to Jackson as they leave through the gates of Yokota Air Base and into the roads to Toyko. To drive to Toyko from the base was a good 50-minute drive, so they had plenty of time to chat on the road. "Yeah, I figured you'd be excited. You still read that uh- whatever the hell you called it, that manga stuff?"
Jackson puts his hands up as he jolts in his seat." Woah! Whatever happens in the barracks stays in there man! But yeah, I'm not excited because the US is at high tensions but it's similar to some of the books I've read."
"Wait sec- you're a weeb Jackson?" Claire asks, having some sort of book in Japanese text in her hand as she glances up at him.
"A little yeah, stopped reading them after Ranger School but used to read them for a good while. Got clowned on by my unit." Jackson says as he relaxes back into his seat.
"And rightfully so." Ryan says with a laugh.
"Ah fuck off Ryan. What'cha reading there Claire?" Jackson asks as he turns around and looks at Claire, pointing to her book.
"It's a translation book in Japanese to the people's language in the gate, I'm trying my best to learn it before we get inside" Claire looked a bit troubled, learning a new language wasn't her sort of thing, she wasn't a green beret who could learn a language in 6 months or so.
"Damn, hard work huh? You've got a tough job."
"Just another day at work." Claire mutters as she continues to read into the book.
"Hooah." Ryan interjects as eventually they drive into Toyko.
The small convoy of JLTVs would soon start to drag some pairs of eyes all around them, with the tensions so high some of the people were rightfully scared. They had no intention to hurt anyone, but seeing everyone eye their vehicles made Ryan and Jackson slightly anxious, Claire was too busy reading into her book to really notice the on-lookers.
Ryan would reach for his radio on the left shoulder of his plate carrier. "Watcher 1-2 how copy?"
"Copy, this is Watcher 1-2. I read you Watcher Actual." Jason replies on his radio, he was the one driving the JLTV behind Ryan who carried the rest of the team.
"Just doing a radio check Watcher 1-2, people here are getting anxious so try your best not to seem hostile." Ryan looks out his window as they stop for a red light, looking at the rearview mirror to his left to check his rear.
"Roger Watcher Actual, we'll keep an eye out. Watcher 1-2 out." Jason replies to the radio before going silent.
"Always wanted to go to Japan, just never in this way." Jackson sighs, looking up at all of the buildings. He enjoyed sightseeing in Japan, but his mission took priority over it than anything.
"It was a pretty good place when I visited. Met a lot of good people from their SOG as well. Nice people, once you know them, too bad feds had to come in here and mess it up." Ryan mutters the last part before the light turns green and he tightens his grip on the steering wheel, driving forward and towards the base installed outside the mysterious gate that shook the world.
"Hey, we're almost there. Get ready Claire, gonna need you on this one." Ryan says as he looks over his shoulder for half a second.
Claire nods in response, tucking her book away in a pouch on her plate carrier before cracking her neck. "Affirm."
