FOR as long as Sevyn could remember, drugs were always in her life.
It wasn't a secret that her father was a drug dealer, by the time she was eleven she knew what he did and the little girl didn't want to be the person who snitched on him.
She knew that her mother was also involved somehow by being a stripper but we'll get into that later.
"I do this because I want you guys to have a good life." Benny spoke to his two children.
At that moment, Sevyn knew that this was her life and one day she was going to take over.
Benny didn't want his kids involved in his business but once their mother walked out and once he gained custody, he didn't have a choice. The man was only twenty four with a three and five year old.
Although it was tough, the two Gain's siblings had matured so quickly due to their lifestyle. By the age of eleven and thirteen, they had both joined the tattoo business their father built from the ground up.
A year later, Zero and Fez were making drug runs together and Sevyn joined shortly after.
The difference was that Fez's family was working for Mouse while Benny had escaped the man's business by the time Sevyn was six and started his own.
Sevyn had seen the whole drug scene for seventeen years. She saw how it ruined people while her family thrived off the money. Deep down a part of her wanted to escape and tell her father she wanted out, but that wasn't an option.
Her father needed her and their mother was long gone.
I remember the first time Sevyn introduced me to Fezco and I knew when I od'd she regretted it.
The Gain's girl pulled up to the Bennett's residence, getting ready to go see a movie with Rue. Their mother was at work by now so it was just Rue and Gia by themselves.
Sevyn was no stranger to the household due to Leslie and Benny going to high school together and still keeping contact after. Although, she didnt have an idea about Benny running a drug business and her daughter being a loyal customer.
"Hellooo!" Sevyn exclaimed, walking into the small house and closing the door behind her.
Gia's head perked up at the sound of Sevyn's voice and ran into the kitchen to meet her.
"Sevyn!" she exclaimed, giving the taller girl a hug.
"How you been? All grown 'n shit now." Sevyn hugged the younger girl, rocking them back and forth just like Gia and Rue's father would.
"I'm good, what are you doing here?"
"Seesh, you actin' like you don't want me here or sum'. I'm takin your lazy ass sister to the movies wit' me, you tryna go?"
Gia's face lit up in excitement. "Really?!"
"Hell yeah! Go get your jacket while I go get Rue and we'll meet you out front." Sevyn smiled, walking down the familiar pink hallway.
Sevyn thought drugs were only something that was for money but I thought they were cool. I mean they're cool before they wreck your skin.
"Aye Rue, wake yo' lazy ass up so we can catch this movie you've been talking about all week-" She spoke while opening the door to Rue's room but cut her words short.
Sevyn's eyes laid on Rue's unconscious body as she laid on the floor with a rolling tray that carried the powdery substance. Her knees quickly hit the floor, turning her friend's body on her side.
"Rue, wake up we gotta go to the movies." Sevyn said softly while rubbing her back.
It wasn't the first time that Sevyn had experienced something like this unfortunately, it was somewhat normal to her now.
"Mom...Mommy you gotta wake up."
Like I've mentioned, Sevyn has been through some shit at such a young age.
"Gia!! Gia! Fuck, Rue! Rue wake the fuck up!" Her voice echoed throughout the house.
Gia ran towards the bedroom door and felt herself almost pass out but couldn't due to Sevyn screaming at her.
"Gia, get the phone and call 911 now!"
Gia continued to stay frozen while she watched her sister's chest wheeze up and down in white spit.
"Gia! Get the fucking phone, please!"
Sevyn had watched people overdose before but didn't know how to save them. It was a different type of pain watching your own best friend suffer from the consequences of being sick.
She wouldn't wish this type of pain on anyone.
"You're gonna be okay Rue, we're gonna be okay." Sevyn whispered while holding her friend's body in her arms while tears fell down her cheeks.
All she could do was hold Rue in her arms.
"Mom's on her way right now..." Sevyn told Gia in a soft tone and sat down next to her on the couch. The two watched Rue's body be pushed into the back of the ambulance from the window.
"Did you know?" Gia whispered.
Sevyn eyes met Gia's telling her the answer without speaking.
"You knew?"
"Gia- It wasn't my-"
"You knew and didn't do shit! You knew Sevyn!" Gia stood in front of Sevyn on the couch.
"Gia it's not like I could've stopped her!" Sevyn argued back.
"You should've!" The younger girl cried out.
"She's sick Gia...you cant tell someone what to do." Sevyn answered, feeling guilty drown her.
The two stared at each other before Sevyn wrapped her arms around the younger girl, hearing her muffled sobs.
"I wish I could've did something." Gia sobbed out.
Sevyn stepped out of her car, looking at the brightly lit up liquor store. Zero and Fez stood talking to each other before they noticed the sad energy pouring from their sister.
"What's wrong, Sev?" Zero furrowed his brows, noticing the tear streaks on the girl's face.
"I-I saw it, Zero. I-I saw it and I didn't know w-what to do. I-It was just like mom- I couldn't- I couldn't-" The younger girl began to cry and shake where she stood.
Fez and Zero caught Sevyn before she fell on the ground, sobbing loudly.
I guess drugs just affects everyone around you unfortunately.
