"Rejoice, for both devils of this world have fallen! Rejoice, I say, for Xun Jie is dead! God, I have never doubted you!"

THE KING OF DONG NAN

MEMENTO MORI

"It's all my fault."

It was indeed all his fault. All his fault for getting attached to this enigmatic hero. It was his fault for making a nickname for this lovely fictitious character and ever considering him real.

Wen Jingyi stared at his computer screen through teary eyes, too tired to stop those pearly drops from pouring down his face, he had posted the last chapter for Memento Mori two hours ago, yet he continued to use his entire stock of tissues within half that time. It did not help that it was raining outside, adding an unnecessary dramatic effect to such a tragic loss.

"I'm so sorry, Jiejie! It just had to be done! How else could I get over this crazed fucking obsession?"

He continued to wail like a baby who had its candy taken away, except it was he who had thrown that candy away without thinking twice about it.

But it was bound to happen. "Jiejie" was bound to leave one time or another, so why not try leaving when you are most ready to?

Thousands of others online have already at least opened that chapter Wen Jingyi had just posted on his website, and he could not just write an epilogue where Xun Jie somehow escaped the fall through an empty plane of nothingness.

"At least my Jiejie didn't die in vain," he chuckled and choked on snot, sweat, and tears.

The synopsis of Memento Mori read something like this:

Xun Jie, a man capable of manipulating human blood and flesh, has come across a flesh of greater evil that crumbles at the touch of his hands. This flesh belonged to that of demons. They are the monsters who threatened his hometown, where he previously studied and practiced spiritual cultivation.

That was before they interfered with a secluded cultivation session of his, which was the great massacre that led to creating the character he is in the current setting.

From then on, he has lived a life as a human with demonic blood and qi coursing through his person with other monsters wishing to spill his impure blood and guts for both races to see.

For this novel finale, since Wen Jingyi needed to get Xun Jie out of his life, he had the brilliant idea to kill him. Looking back now, killing Xun Jie may have been the worst idea to ever surface when plotting Memento Mori , as it was just a couple of hours past midnight and Wen Jingyi's throat was beginning to ache from all his sobbing.

"I'm so sorry Xun Jie," he continued to cry out. "I was the only way, I swear!"

He sniffled a few more times before heading to the bathroom to wash his face and get all the nasty liquids off his face. Still, after wiping his face with a cold washcloth three times, tears continued to pour out.

He looked in the mirror, glancing up and down between his reflection and the sink. His eyes had been swollen and eyebags formed from his lack of sleep. They made him look like a raccoon, and despite the charm of those little animals, the sight of Wen Jingyi was not pleasant in the slightest.

Upon glancing at that awful sight that was his reflection for a nth time, the lights in the room flickered. A strike of lightning lit up the room, followed by a thump of thunder before the lights in the apartment went out entirely.
