His Royal Highness the King of Dong Nan had never been on good terms with anyone outside of his immediate family. It was a wonder that Her Highness Shang Hou was born in the first place.
MEMENTO MORI
The two of them raced to get their robes on neatly. Wen Jingyi of course needed help from Xun Jie to get the sash tied correctly and refused any further help. Partly since Hai Ruan was still in the room and to save his dignity
When they made it to the ground floor, the king, crown princess, and other escorting members of the military stood at the entrance.
"Your Royal Highness, what is the meaning of this?" Xun Jie started, and the king waved a hand to dismiss any further words from him as he let himself into the palace. This irked Xun Jie, but he could only huff a low sigh.
"I've heard a word of the demon lord. My daughter has already informed me of the situation."
Xun Jie rolled his eyes as the king walked in with his daughter and men. Among the group of men, Fu Qianqiu stood tall and proud. Of what, no one would know.
"So, this is where you've been hiding? One can only imagine how much pride the Tiger of Jiao Xiang Palace would have in taking the lives of such great warriors. I wonder why it is that he was able to slay dozens of these heavenly officers but not a measly demon lord."
Wen Jingyi was suddenly reminded of just how shitty he made the authorities of this world. He wanted to make this work a spitting image of his own world, and what other way to do it than add their shitty government? China wasn't the only country in the world with a poor governing body, but it was terrible enough to make the plot of Memento Mori more intriguing.
Seeing as Shang Hou was the daughter and appointed general of the king, it would only be natural that she would pick up some of his nasty habits as well.
"Xun Jie, you are under arrest. You have conspired with demons and brought lies, damage, and false hope to the homes of the people during the Battle on Mount Bing Chuan," Shang Hou spoke as she unwound a roll of immortal binding cable. They were meant to restrict the usage of any qi within the bound individual, whether it be spiritual or demonic.
"You can't be serious. I'm quite sure that you as the king have endangered your people more times than you can count using your fingers and toes. Your Highness, I thought you said you were going to be busy on that journey to the kingdom. How is it that you made it to and from Dong Nan so quickly?"
"A walking journey would take nearly a whole day if breaks were taken. Riding by a spiritual device at full speed with no breaks would take nearly no time at all. Fu Qianqiu was lucky enough to do the same and catch up soon enough to inform me where Jiao Xiang Palace was located."
Shang Hou's tone was just as cold as the expression on her face. Her brows were only lightly knitted, but it made her beautiful face transform into a terrifying one. Wen Jingyi felt that staring into her eyes a moment longer would freeze him over.
"Your new colleague will be coming along with us as well, for aiding and mingling with you -a demon-in your escape from reality."
What the fuck!
Xun Jie held his poker face up until now. He heard this and immediately threw an arm out to grab Wen Jingyi's hand before running through the main hall.
"What are you doing?! Wouldn't conversing with them make us seem less suspicious?!"
"Nothing will get through their thick skulls. Once they found out I'd been working with Hai Ruan, I'd been a dead man walking. They wouldn't bother to listen to a word anyone says, no matter their race or reason. If you're lower than them in the social hierarchy, then you might as well have been born a slave."
