Wake Up

Jim felt so sore as he came to consciousness. He could hear his friends muffled voices, obliviously coming from a different room. he then felt a small weight on his chest, taking a deep breath through his nose, he recognized Claire's scent. His eyes fluttered open and he looked down to find his girlfriend laying on top of him. he smiled weakly as he looked around the room, trying to make anything out. it was too dark and he was still half asleep so he couldn't quite tell but he knew it was somewhere safe. he did, however, notice he was back in his human form. all the moving woke Claire as she blinked her eyes open, noticing the movement from under her she looked to Jim's face to find him awake.

"stop scaring us." she whispered as she pulled him in for a gentle hug with tears in her eyes. he gave a weak laugh as he ignored the pain and hugged her back with one arm. "you're lucky you don't have any sick days yet." she said, pulling away.

"how long have i been out?" Jim rasped, sitting up with little trouble but Claire still helped him. the slim teen rubbed his face as he realized his mother would have been worried sick.

"Toby was able to convince your mom that you left before her and got home after her, and no one at school is really suspicious of your 'sick leave'." Claire explained, seeming to pass over Jim's original question.

"Babe, how long?" he asked again. Both him and Claire blushed at the pet name but neither one could see the other in the dark.

"Only three days." Claire answered. Jim would have said something but she cut him off. "At least it's not three weeks." she joked, kissing his cheek.

Jim sighed as his vision adjusted to the dark and he saw they were in one of Blinkys many side rooms to his home. This room was one they used often after tiring missions for quick naps before they would head home. Claire got off the makeshift bed, making Jim want to follow her. He swung his legs over the side of the bed and tried to stand.

"Three days and i'm still this weak?" Jim grunted as his legs gave out and he fell back on the blankets. Claire walked back over to him.

"You spent too much magic. Honestly, none of us thought you were going to wake up for at least a week." she said with a dry laugh. She grabbed his hands and helped him to his wobbly feet. She knew he wasn't going to just lie and rest, so she might as well help him stay on his feet rather than hitting the ground.

"Thank Deya, mom believed Toby." Jim grunted, using Claire for balance as she wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "I'm going to get a lecture for being stupid again, aren't i?" Jim chuckled as they started to walk to the other room. Claire laughed and nodded her head, making Jim sigh and roll his eyes.

"We'll have about two weeks before they get back, at the very least." Douxie's voice flowed through the curtain that they used as a door to the side room. This felt all too familiar to Jim. Images of the round table and planning to take out the Arcane order flashed in Jim's mind. Claire pushed the fabric aside as they walked through.

"Jim." ARRRGGH!, of course, was the first to notice them and rumbled happy noises with a wide smile. His words surprised everyone, they all whipped their heads towards the teen in question.

"Jimbo!" Toby yelled in excitement as he ran to, gently, hug his best friend. Jim happily hugged him back with a small laugh.

"Got room for one more?" Jim joked, recalling what he said back in Camalot right before the titans. They all laughed as Toby jumped in to help Jim to the table with Claire. Jim caught eyes with Douxie and his brother's face said everything needed. "Just go for it." Jim sighed, now using the table for his balance.

"If you know it's coming, then you know what I'm going to say." Douxie said with a smile. Jim laughed and nodded his head.

"you're too reckless. you take too many risks. Stop doing dumb sh!t." Jim rambled what he thought his brother would have said, gaining more laughs from everyone. "Yeah, I know, sorry. I just. ." Jim sighed. "Strickler's on our side now." he said. The others were shocked seeing as the only other person that knew was Claire.
