"You're far from any demon I've ever seen, my lady."
———————————————————————————The cat is following her.
Janeice repressed an agonized sigh. Janeice had no desire to mess around with this cat any further. He's cute and all but she's tired and it's past her eatin' time. Besides, he's already on thin ice with her for being a distraction from her outline and interrupting her song. It was just hitting its crescendo too!
Whose cat is this anyway? Based on behavior alone, she could tell it isn't a stray. It's too comfortable around humans, and there is none of that signature feline skittishness in him at all. Janeice's intuition told her that the cat following her is far from ordinary. Its red eyes, specifically, hinted at something more, something supernatural.
Perhaps the little beast is someone's familiar? Maybe there's a nearby witch somewhere frantically looking for their far-too-curious cat friend? Or hell, maybe the little bastard was sent to spy on her by that same witch? It wouldn't be the first time she's gained a witch's interest.
Janeice doubted that though. Witches could only have one familiar. A witches soul is split in half from birth, the other half being given to the animal they bonded with. So, by that logic, if she were being spied on by a witch, she'd only have one little follower instead of six.
She could hear paw pads lightly stepping behind branches and bushes, their fur rustling through dirt as they stalked through the forest's winding pathways. She could sense excitement radiating off of some of them, particularly the black cat. There was also some evident anxiety in a few of their steps, as if they didn't all want to follow her out here...interesting. It's obvious that they want something from her. But what? Her eyes narrowed with annoyance.
'What's their deal, anyhow?' Janeice thought to herself. 'I can't possibly be that interesting, can I?'
She couldn't help but wonder if this is payback for not hiding her nature from the cat and teasing it with promises of secrets.
'Well, it seems it's come to collect. Good grief, I wasn't being serious y'know.' She rolled her eyes, her irritation growing.
Janeice is slowly growing bored of this tedious debacle, therefore it's time to shake off her pursuers. As time went on, she began to hatch a plan to lose them. Janeice's lips quirked into a sinister smirk. Perhaps she can play around a bit with her new little friends?
She abruptly changed her route, leaving the forest behind and slowly venturing into the bustling city streets. If she wanted to baffle those little troublemakers, what could be more confusing than the labyrinthine streets of the urban jungle? Her least favorite place in the world.
Janeice dimmed the noise around herself in order to become undetectable to the ears. She pinpointed the location of each of her stalkers and amplified the volume of the city around them to further discombobulate them, making herself even harder to distinguish. She knew that wouldn't be enough though, not for these cats.
Thankfully, there was humidity in the air today. Once she could feel them turn their eyes away, she merged into the shadows and evaporated into thin air. Becoming one with the water molecules floating from the rain. Now that she was one with the water, she was everywhere, and could create auditory hallucinations imitating the sounds of her humming and the occasional stray giggle to further draw their attention away.
The cats began to stray further and further from each other, each believing they were following Janeice. They were hyper focused on the hallucinations, but they were beginning to feel uncomfortable as the atmosphere got louder and louder for the cats until their ears were ringing. Their eyes rolled back as the pain became a splitting headache, which eventually turned into a full body cast of sheer torture. Muscles searing with pain and bones straining under the pressure until they dropped unconscious, one by one, as their eardrums were on the verge of being blown out.
Janeice actually started to feel a bit bad. She definitely got too carried away again. She could still hear their trembling breaths so they were still alive, thank god. She didn't need that on her conscience.
When the coast was clear, she reformed her physical body. Janeice looked around for somewhere safe to put them that was as far away from her home as possible. That's when she noticed her location.
'Ah! We're on the edge of town! Ok then, I'll just scatter them along various safe points in these trees. It'll be harder for them to find each other and they won't get eaten by woodland predators. It's a win win!'
With these thoughts in mind, she got to work. As such, the kittens were now nice and tucked away inside various trees all over the wooded area. Cats are good climbers right? They should be fine.
Janeice smiled slightly before wordlessly walking away. Janeice closed her eyes, tuned her ears and isolated the sounds of the cat's breaths. Confirming that they were still alive, and no longer a threat, she could fast travel and finally make her way home.
Now, back at home, Janeice reformed her physical body once more and relaxed. Janeice let out a loud, heavy sigh that shuttered the walls of her abode as her eyes turned black, and her teeth sharpened. Her hair floated freely behind her as she sauntered over to her kitchen. Janeice had unfinished business with her stove, as it's the perfect time to make dinner.
