"That insolent little wench! Who does she think she is?!"
"Hehee~, something beyond our understanding indeed."
———————————————————————————Jason and Janeice sit in the car, the atmosphere tense. Jason has a tight grip on the steering wheel while lost in his thoughts.
He was still feeling guilty about the incident with the cats. What could have driven them to act that way? Jason wasn't sure but, even still, he felt the need to apologize once more.
"Hey....Janeice?"
Janeice was looking out of the window, silent as ever. She hums softly to acknowledge him, but doesn't make a move to turn around.
Jason wonders if the silence is getting awkward for Janeice too. He attempted to go forth with his apology anyway.
"Um.....I still appreciate you coming over yesterday. If there's anything I can do to make it up to you, please let me know, okay?"
Janeice continues to remain silent; once again not bothering to face him. Jason sighed in resignation.
'She probably doesn't want to talk right now. I'll just take her home and check on her later when she's feeling better.'
40 minutes later, the car slowly pulls into the cobblestone road of her driveway, signifying the end of the awkward car ride.
Before Jason can unlock the door, however; Janeice surprises him by placing a hand on his shoulder. Jason jumps the slightest bit, startled by the sudden touch. Jason is even more startled to see a small little smile on Janeice's face, looking reassuring.
Janeice begins to sign her response, "Hey, don't worry so much. I'm fine and their behavior isn't your fault. You did everything you could to make my stay comfortable, despite them, and I really appreciate you for that. You're a good friend Jason."
Jason's face reddens a bit at the praise. He was honored to know that he succeeded in making her feel comfortable. Although, Janeice's sunny expression really isn't helping him calm his nerves. Nevertheless, that smile would succeed in easing his guilt. Janeice is such a sweetheart. It felt good to see her happy.
Jason turns away shyly as he stutters, "Oh! Uh, it's nothing, Janeice. That's what a friend is supposed to do. Now you stay safe, okay? And don't be afraid to text if you need anything."
Janeice nods, acknowledging his statement before she moves to exit the car, but then she hesitates. Her eyebrows scrunched together as she twiddled her fingers, seemingly contemplating something.
"You okay, Janeice? You need me to walk you to the door?"
Janeice continues to linger. She fidgets anxiously as she looks back at Jason. Her fingers tremble a bit as she signs, "That's sweet of you to offer, but no, I'll be fine. I was actually gonna say that....well....If you're ever struggling with the cats again, like....REALLY STRUGGLING....then I guess....I don't mind helping out every once in a while."
Jason's eyes went wide and lit up like a Christmas tree. Did she really mean it?
"Really? You mean it!?"
Janeice grumbles something barely audible then sighs. She signs with some hesitation, "Yeah, I guess, or whatever. Lord knows you'll need my help, as always." Janeice gives him a light smirk, feeling playful enough to crack on him a bit.
Jason's enthusiasm almost smothers her as he wraps her in a bear hug.
"Oh thank you, thank you, thank you, Janeice! You may not believe it, but you being there was the calmest I've ever seen them act!"
