"My, my, she's a dangerous one, eh? Hehehe~"
———————————————————————————Janeice's heart stopped. She wanted to scream so badly. Those crimson eyes, so hauntingly familiar, glared back at her like they knew her. It couldn't be a coincidence. He was back, and he had managed to gather all of his little feline friends. Panic set in. Did they somehow know that she was responsible for their sensory overload that day? She couldn't easily fend them off here if they started a fight, at least not without revealing bits of her true form
She knew the best course of action was to remain calm, so she schooled her face and pretended not to recognize the menacing cat. Instead, Janeice gave Jason a convincing look of shock. She tilted her head innocently, silently inquiring about his situation.
Jason chuckled sheepishly, "Cute, right?! I've never seen such unique-looking felines! I've gotta say, they're very pretty kittens! If I could, I'd totally keep them!"
Janeice rolled her eyes playfully at Jason. She knew he had a soft spot for animals. However, one thing he said caught her attention.
Quickly grabbing a random piece of paper and a pen from off of the desk, she wrote, "If you could?" She didn't feel like signing at the moment so she decided to write out her thoughts instead.
Jason sighed, clearly torn. "Yeah, that's the thing. I have a dog, and they don't exactly...get along."
'Understandable,' Janeice thought to herself. That explained his predicament.
She scribbled another note, "I understand. But why did you call me here? Do you need help training the dog to get along better with the cats?"
Jason smiled warmly at Janeice. "I appreciate the offer, but, uh... I was actually hoping that maybe...you'd be willing to take them off my hands?"
Janeice gave him an incredulous look. He can't be serious!
Furious, she wrote another note, "Jason, what part of me looks like I have the capacity to handle 6 cats???"
Jason, undeterred but nervous, pleaded, "Wait, wait, hear me out! I know it's a big ask, but Janeice, I really think this could be a great thing for you! You live all alone in that big house, and you always mentioned how you've been wanting a pet or two..."
She scribbled, "Yeah, a pet or two! Not six! And also, what makes you think these cats would be okay with being moved around again so soon? Cats get anxiety when their environments change. It'll stress them out!"
"Please, Janeice, I don't know what else to do. Look at them! They hate me!"
Janeice took a quick glance at the cats, who were all glaring at Jason.
"Damn. What'd you do to em?" she wrote.
"Nothing, I swear to God," Jason pleaded. "As soon as I brought them in, they started avoiding me like the plague. And when I try to feed or play with them, they hiss and scratch me! Little devils!"
That was the wrong thing to say. The cats began hissing in response. Janeice shook her head with slight embarrassment. That's not how you treat a cat. No wonder they hated him!
She sighed and wrote, "Well, what makes you think they'll like me? I'm just as much a stranger to them as you are."
Jason smirked, "Well, why don't we test that out then, shall we?" He bounced his eyebrows coyly at her as he managed to coax each of the six cats out of the box and onto the floor. The cats surveyed the area warily before turning their attention toward Janeice.
