Ellie's eyes widened with awe as she looked up at a skyscraper that had fallen to it's side, colliding with the skyscraper across the street. Everything was abandoned and nature had started to reclaim the land. She had never seen anything like it.

"Holy moley. I guess this is what these buildings look like up close. They're so damn tall." She said. "So, what happened here?"

"They bombed the hell out of the surrounding areas to the quarantine zones, hoping to kill as much of the infected as possible." Tess answered.

A strange, almost deranged, sounding scream was heard in the distance. "What the hell was that?" Ellie asked.

"Did you guys hear that?" Annie asked.

"Yeah. Sounded pretty far away though." Tess replied.

"Shit." Joel sighed.

"Are we safe?" Ellie asked.

"For now. Come on."

The road they walked down ended with a giant bomb crater. "Damn. That's quite a drop." Ellie commented as she peaked over the edge.

"Well, there's the capitol building." Joel said, pointing out into the distance. The golden half-sphere that sat on the roof of the building could be seen from miles away on a clear day. Even though it was dark, it was still easy to see.

"Yeah, we need to get around this mess." Tess said, glancing at the crater below. She led the way as the group made their way around the crater and to the road on the other side.

"This is the downtown area?" Ellie asked.

"It was. Now it's a giant wasteland." Tess answered.

Spotting a ruined skyscraper nearby, Joel called the others over. "Let's check it out." Annie said, before she began rushing over to the beaten up building. Joel tried telling her to slow down, but there was no stopping the girl. He let out a heavy sigh before catching up with her.

"Should I do anything?" Ellie asked.

"Just stay close to them for now." Joel replied, gesturing to the Servopoulos sisters.

"Roger dodger." Ellie said, before she fell back to walk in-between Tess and Hazel.

Walking alongside the building looking for a way in, Annie paused briefly when something shiny caught her eye. She bent down and picked up a locket, there was no chain attached, just the locket all by itself. She opened it up and frowned when she saw a picture of a baby inside.
