"Can't believe you agreed to this bullshit, Bill. What you shoulda done was just left them back there." Bill had been muttering away to himself ever since they left the bar, and it was beginning to drive Hazel insane. She wished she could just yell at him and tell him to shut up; but she knew he would turn and leave them to fend for themselves if they upset him too much, so she fought to keep her mouth shut.
"You weren't kidding about him." Ellie quietly said.
"Yeah, he's one of a kind." Joel replied.
"So, what kind of trouble are you in? Where the hell's Tess?" Bill asked.
Hearing her sister's name caught Hazel off guard, and she felt tears spring to her eyes. She partially opened her mouth but no words came out. That's when Annie stepped in. "We're just doing a job. It's a simple drop off."
She looked up at Hazel, who gave her the smallest smile of appreciation. Neither of them were ready to admit the truth to anyone that wasn't there that day. Bill didn't need to know what happened to Tess either.
"What are you delivering? That little brat?" Bill asked.
"Haha. Fuck you, too." Ellie replied.
"So, where we goin', Bill?" Joel asked.
"My other safehouse. It's more of an armoury." Bill replied.
Ellie frowned. "Wait, I thought we were gonna fix a car."
"We? you know how to fix a--"
"Bill, just..." Joel sighed.
"It's like I said, what I need is on the other side of town. Now, that side I don't ever go to 'cause it's filled with infected. So, we're gonna need more guns." Bill said.
They continued into a new building where an infected could be heard howling nearby. "Shhh. There's one inside." Joel said in a hushed tone.
"Oh...I've been meaning to take care of that." Bill said. "Relax, it's nothin'. So, you didn't answer my question about Tess. I mean, I thought you two were inseparable. And I thought Hazel would never leave her out of her sight."
"She's busy." Hazel replied.
Bill walked over to the trapped infected and started chopping at it. "Yeah, sure...busy." He said.
"Aw, gross." Ellie said as she watched the infected monster's blood splatter over the wall.
"Alright...here we go." Bill opened a door leading into a parking lot.
"So...why don't you fix one of these cars?" Ellie asked, looking around at the rusted vehicles around her.
"Oh my god, you're a genius. I mean the whole time, why on earth hadn't I thought about fixin' one of these cars?" Bill sarcastically questioned.
