(Y/n's POV)
I'm not sure how long I was out, but I start to wake up from a dreamless sleep. I open my eyes to see that I'm in a huge candy bedroom, in a large comfortable king-size bed. I start to sit up, but then I feel a throbbing pain in my head, and I lie back down against the soft pillows. I place a hand against my head, only to learn that a wet washcloth that has been soaked with warm water has been placed on my forehead, and I see scrapes and bruises on my arms and legs. I try to remember what happened.
Ralph. . . Vanellope. . . the kart bakery. . . King Candy chasing us. . . I think.
That's when I realize I'm back in King Candy's castle. Wait a minute. If he brought me back here, why didn't he put me in the dungeon. . . I mean, fungeon? Am I not in trouble for helping an enemy of his? One of the large double doors opens, and I look to see King Candy entering the room. He has a bowl of warm water in one hand and a glass of cold water in the other. He sighs with relief when he sees me.
"Oh, good, you're awake. I was wondering when you'd wake up," he says as he walks over to my bed.
"Why. . . am I. . . here?" I ask him, my throat not fully awake yet.
"I found you unconscious, so I brought you back here to help you," he replies as he sits on a chair by the bed and sets the bowl of warm water on the nightstand.
"Help. . . me? Why?" I ask him, my voice still a little raspy.
He wants to help me? Why would he do that? I try to sit up, but that pain comes back to my head, and I lie back against the pillows. I see him looking at me with worry, as if silently asking me if I'm okay. He then hands me the cup of water.
"Have some water," he says gently.
I slowly sit up and take off the washcloth to put it on the nightstand, and I take the cup, wondering why he's being so kind to me.
"Um. . . thank you," I say, and I drink the water, the cold feeling waking my throat up.
"You're welcome. Now, would you please tell me what you were doing at the bakery with Wreck-It Ralph and the glitch?" he asks.
"Please stop referring to her as 'the glitch.' She has a name," I say. "And Ralph and I were just helping her build a new kart. We witnessed the other racers destroy her old kart. I'll admit, it wasn't the prettiest kart ever made, but still, she just wants to be a racer like you and the others. Vanellope and Ralph made a deal: if Ralph helped her make a real kart, she would win the race and get him back his medal."
"I see," he says before sighing. "Look, (Y/n), I know you won't like hearing me say this, but Vanellope cannot be allowed to race."
Out of frustration, I slam the cup down on the nightstand.
"And why is that, huh? What did Vanellope ever do to you? Why are you so persistent on crushing her dreams of being a racer? Why do you hate her so much?" I ask him.
I have gotten so sick of everyone being so cruel to Vanellope, and I want to know why.
"I don't hate her! I'm trying to protect her!" he replies, holding his hands up in defense.
My frown softens a bit when he says that.
"Protect her from what?" I ask him.
"If Vanellope wins that race, she'll be added to the race roster. The gamers can choose her as their avatar. And when they see her glitching and twitching and just being herself, they'll think our game is broken. We'll be out of order for good. All my subjects will be homeless. But there's one who cannot escape because she's a glitch. And when the game's plug is pulled, she'll die with it," King Candy explains to me.
