"I heard Mr. Thorne's daughter was coming in today," my coworker, Shayla, told me during work. It was the beginning of our shift and I had vaguely heard about Brooklyn coming in today to observe and take notes for her father.
"Yeah. We were childhood best friends so I'm kinda excited to see her. I haven't seen her since we were 10," Ace, Marcel's son, added, grinning widely in remembrance of her. "I had a huge crush on her when we were little."
I nodded, my lips formed into a straight line. I was kinda uncomfortable with this topic and I didn't want to hear more about Ace's "massive crush" on Brooklyn.
I shook my head and mentally scolded myself for my thoughts. I shouldn't be this upset over a guy talking about his childhood crush when he was only 10 years old.
But what if they rekindle things?
I don't care.
"You guys need to be on your best behavior, understood?" Marcel instructed us. "Mr. Thorne's daughter, Brooklyn, will be coming in today to evaluate us. Don't act weird or overly fake, just be your normal selves and everything should be okay."
We all nodded at his instructions. I was not looking forward to seeing Brooklyn today. She barely acknowledges me in class nowadays and we hadn't talked about our project since we met up the first time. The due date was looming over our heads and getting closer as the days passed.
I didn't want a bad grade on it so I had to suck it up and eventually ask her to work on it together.
When the door opened, all our heads snapped towards it. Brooklyn walked in the restaurant, her heels clicking with each step she took. She was wearing a floral sundress and some heels. Her hair was slightly curled and she had a pearl head band on her head. She looked very bougie.
She was beautiful.
Even I could admit that.
"She's prettier than when she was 10," Ace muttered. I rolled my eyes at his dropped jaw. He was definitely in awe by her beauty. I'm sure she was used to that.
"Damn she's hot," Shayla added, eyeing Brooklyn as she made her way towards us.
"Hi Jameson," She nodded to me, she turned her head to Shayla next. "I'm Brooklyn, nice to meet you."
"Shayla," she beamed at her. This girl was definitely starstruck.
Brooklyn turned to Ace next, a smile lit up her face when she saw him. Her reaction did things to my heart but I decided to ignore it. "Ace?" She asked.
"Brookie, you're all grown up now," Ace grinned, putting his arms out to hug her. She jumped into his arms and hugged him tightly.
"I haven't seen you in so long," she breathed out and pulled away. "Where's Uncle Marcel?"
"I'm right here," Marcel came out. He beamed at the brunette in front of me before pulling her in for a hug. "Why haven't you ever visited us sooner?"
She smiled sheepishly at him. "I'm sorry, I've just been a little busy."
