Chapter 2
•Alex's P.O.V•
I followed the others with Zielo to the training arena. Much like the school, not much has changed about it, apart from the few cracks that remained from two months ago. We found Celest standing in the centre, drawing pictures in the air with glowing streaks of light. I waved to her.
"Hey Celest!"
She turned to us. "Oh, hey guys! Took you long enough to get here."
"So, what did you find?" Zielo asked, arms crossed.
"Yeah, show us!" Aaron urged excitedly.
A grin spread across Celest's face as she held out her closed hand towards us. Slowly, she relaxed her fingers, revealing a small yellow glowing-
"A rock?" Zielo said, somewhat disappointed.
"First of all, this isn't a rock. It's a gem." Celest said.
"One is just a shiny version of the other." He shrugged.
"And secondly, this isn't just any normal gem."
"What makes it so special?" I asked. Celest grinned.
"Watch this."
She closed her hand around the gem and turned away from us. After a bit of time, I noticed a small cluster of yellow energy sparking around her closed fist. But something was off. Celest's light was normally pink.
This energy was yellow.
Suddenly, her hair began to change colour, very similar to how mine changed from brown to red on my birthday. After a moment, her bright pink hair was fully yellow.
I stared in surprise and confusion as she turned to the side and lifted her free hand. Her eyes crackled and glowed with a bright yellow. And with a sudden spark, a large bolt of lightning flew from her palm, crashing into the far wall of the circular arena.
My jaw dropped faster than the bolt left her hand. Celest turned to us.
"...WHAAAAAAAT!?!?!?" We all screamed in unison.
The crackling energy around her hand faded and her hair and eyes turned back to its usual pink. She flashed us a smirk.
"THAT WAS SO COOL!" Zack exclaimed.
"HOW DID YOU DO THAT!?" Damian shouted.
"Like I said, it's no ordinary gem." Celest said, holding the gem out for us to see. "I don't know how, but if I focus my energy through it, it lets me do lightning magic."
"Where did you find it?" Zielo asked in shock.
"In the main hall." Celest replied. "I thought one of the seniors might've dropped it at some point when everyone left the assembly, but no one that I asked knew a thing about it."
"That's strange." Damian muttered.
"I wanna try!" Cameron snatched the gem from Celest's hand. Yellow sparks began swirling around his hand as his hair and eyes turned yellow as well. He looked down at his hands.
"Whoa..."
Cameron lifted his arm up towards the sky, striking a pose similar to Freddy Mercury, and a bolt of lightning leapt from his fingers into the bright blue sky. Cameron looked up in wonder.
"Cool!"
"My turn!" Natalie said as she swiped the gen with one of her vines.
"Hey! I wasn't done with that!" Cameron protested, his eyes and hair going back to normal. But Natalie's hair and eyes immediately began to change. Small sparks appeared on the ground in front of her. A split second later, a huge plant grew from the ground, bearing multiple orbs of yellow crackling light hanging from low vines.
