Chapter 28
•Alex's P.O.V•
I skidded to a halt as I reached the arena doors, lightning crackling at my heels. I took a breath, letting the sparks die out as a sudden chill shot up my spine. The chill from the snow that had been falling for the past few days had managed to creep in through the thick walls of the castle.
"Took ya long enough to get here, Fier." A voice spoke from above me. Upon looking up, I saw the older lightning elemental sitting on the stands, looking down at me with a cheeky smile.
"Hey, Erika." I waved. "I'm not too late, am I?"
"Nope." She replied. Her body then vanished in a bright flash of yellow light, then reappeared right in front of me. I jumped back, startled.
"You're right on time." She smirked, the end her ponytail seemingly glowing with sparks. I stared in amazement.
"...how did you do that?"
"Oh, it's easy, really." She shrugged. "I just move really really fast."
I shot her a confused look. She laughed for a bit before grinning at me.
"Don't worry, firefly, you'll get it after you master the basics of electrokinesis. Which, by the way..." She glanced at my hair curiously. "...you're able to freely switch in and out each element by now, right?"
I nodded. "Yeah. Still getting the hang of retaining them, though. If it weren't for my pendant, I'd be a magic mess."
I held my pendant up by my thumb, a bright red and orange glow pulsing from the gem. Erika nodded.
"Hmm... I can work with that." Erika shrugged. "Alright, get yourself changed, and we can begin."
Erika snapped her fingers. In a quick spark of yellow light, her school uniform had been swapped out for her sports kit with a visor similar to Zack's where her glasses used to be.
I nodded, snapping my fingers. A small spark leapt from them, but nothing happened. I snapped again, and again, more sparks flying from my fingertips. I was still in my school uniform. Erika shot me an amused look. I found myself blushing out of embarrassment.
"Sorry, still trying to get the hang of it." I chuckled nervously. I let out a focused breath and snapped once more. This time, my entire body was engulfed in a yellow light. As it faded, I found myself in a pair of shorts and a tank top. Not the exact clothing I had in mind, but it was close enough. Erika smiled and shook her head.
"You'll get there, kiddo." She put a reassuring hand on my shoulder. I smiled away the embarrassment and put on an eager look.
"So, what's my first lesson in lightning magic?" I asked Erika.
"Simple."
She held her fingers up in front of her, an inch or two of empty space between them. Then, a string of lightning began to spark from one fingertip to the other. Soon after, she pulled her hands apart and the still sparking strand of lightning turned into a small ball of electricity between her palms.
"Think fast!"
Without a second to process what she meant, she sent the ball f lightning flying straight at me. I instinctively held up my arms and shut my eyes tight, anticipating the static shock to collide with my skin.
Except, it felt more...ticklish than I remembered.
I felt a tingle up my spine as I opened my eyes and lowered my hands, Erika holding back a laugh with her arms crossed. I shot her a confused look. She then walked up to me and ruffled my hair, pops of static electricity sparking here and there.
