The weeks passed like hours and soon the group was facing the Volturi. The meeting was set for this afternoon and to say Reese was anxious would be an immense understatement. So to try and ground herself, she went to the only place and person she could think of. Stopping at the edge of the cliff she perched on a rock and dialed Cordelia's number. "Please pick up, please pick up" she muttered to herself as the ringing caused her anxiety to rise.

Delia?

What's wrong, honey?

I'm scared

Of what? Are you ok?

Yeah I'm probably overreacting, I just needed to hear your voice

One second... (yeah just give me a minute)

I didn't mean to interrupt... you can go if you need to-

No, no, honey (door closing) I'm all yours

Well no, I feel like an ass

You're not an ass. Can you tell me what's going on?

Not really

Ok well... what do you wanna talk about?

Anything...

I baked a cake today; chocolate. The girls have already devoured it as usual and now they all have stomach aches. So no classes for today... umm Fiona's out today as well. So it's really just been me and Myrtle

That sounds nice, a day off

Reese's anxiety was beginning to diminish and she felt foolish for being anxious in the first place.

I've calmed down now and I feel stupid. There was really no reason for me to be nervous

Had Cordelia known what she was about to do, she would've told her otherwise. She probably wouldn't have even wanted her to go.

Don't say that... in fact—if I could—I'd give you a hug right now, I would. Then I'd punch you for calling yourself stupid haha

Your hugs are actually pretty good I could use one

Simple fix. Where are you?

On the edge of a cliff

You'll need to be more specific and also move so you don't fall, dummy

Ok mom! And I'm in a place called Forks it's in Washington and I'm on the west side on the outskirts of the forest is that-

Within seconds Reese stopped speaking because Cordelia stood in front of her. She smiled softly and bit her lip at the sight of the brunette. Reese ran to her and picked her up twirling her in her arms. The blonde needing to hold onto her shoulders for support. Reese lowered her gently to the ground and wrapped her in her arms.

"Well, I guess someone did miss me. When did you become a hugger?" Cordelia asked her as they pulled apart to look at each other. "I just really missed you is all" Reese said not feeling ashamed of being vulnerable for once. "I'm so glad you could come" Reese said, motioning over to a rock.

"I wish you would've told me to prepare for the weather" Cordelia said, rubbing her arms up and down. "Here" Reese said, taking off her jacket and putting it over Cordelia's shaking shoulders. "But won't you-" "trust me. I won't get cold" Reese interrupted. She then heard rustling nearby and her head whipped in that direction.

Only to see Jasper in a tree close by staring at Cordelia. She widened her eyes and made a sound only he could hear. He got the message and turned away heading in a different direction.  "Someone's jumpy... are you sure everything's ok?" Cordelia asked, grabbing Reese's attention back to her.

"Yes I'm fine. Everything's good, just thought I heard something. Plus, if I was afraid of danger I'd never allow you to come" Reese said seriously. She cares for Cordelia more than she's even admitted to herself. "Awww that's cute, but I can handle myself" Cordelia said. "Yeah yeah" Reese said, nudging her but not realizing her own strength she almost knocked Cordelia over.

"See" Reese brushed it off by acting like she was making a point. "Whatever" Delia scoffed, "so you won't even invite me to meet your aunt or your cousin?" Cordelia asked teasingly and Reese rolled her eyes. "Also, thank you for being so cool about that. I would've lost my shit" Reese said. "That's because you have a short fuse, and also... I trust you" Delia said.

Reese smiled at her statement and pulled her into her side. "Don't make me regret it" Cordelia said quietly but loud enough to make sure Reese would hear it. "I won't, I promise and I-" "never break a promise" Cordelia whispers. The two cuddled up for a bit longer before Reese got a text saying she was needed. "I'll see you later?" Reese asked hopefully, "see you later" Delia replied. She gave back the jacket and gave Reese a kiss on the cheek disappearing before she could react.

Reese: Thanks for the kiss goodbye :)

It was a really sweet gesture and Reese was glad she'd gotten to experience it. In general she was happy to have been able to see Cordelia, being that it could be the last time. She kept her thoughts on Cordelia as she made her way back to the house. Even as they travelled to the clearing where the meet would take place.

She took deep breaths, awaiting the other party to get there. Once everyone was present, the first people she laid eyes on caused her mood to switch. Her anxiety quickly morphed into anger and hate. Aro; the leader, Jane; the pain, and Caius; death fingers. At least that's what she called them.

Alice and Jasper were the last to arrive and the first to approach Aro. She couldn't exactly hear what was going on but Reese saw Alice place her hand in his. She knew they weren't making a deal so she figured Alice must be showing him a vision. Time seemed to slow down and speed up all at once.

By the time Alice had pulled her hand away, Aro's permanent smirk was gone. They exchanged a few words and they were said to be free to go. Deep down, Reese knew it wasn't over but at least today they wouldn't need to fight. Jasper apologized for bringing them all here and most of the group was respectful.

Reese on the other hand simply nodded towards him, showing her solidarity. He nodded back telling her she could go and she was off. Back to the house in a minute flat and taking no rest before heading back to New Orleans. She turned the key to her house and opened the door, sighing as a familiar smell engulfed her nose. It smelled like her—it smelled like home.
