A/N: Qui-Gon is Lowkey in his girl dad era lol. As always, let me know what you think!

Lexa felt like she had been dragged through the waters of Naboo again or something. Her limbs felt sluggish and by the time that Shmi Skywalker had prepared dinner, she was more than ready to crash for the evening.

Anakin had been excited to show both her and Padme his droid he had been building to help his mom. And Lexa had to admit, for something he made at home, it was pretty impressive.

Having volunteered to help bring the food over to the table, Lexa found Shmi's presence to be one of unusual calm within the Force. Taking a seat at the table, Shmi finally sat down.

"All slaves have a transmitter somewhere in their bodies," Shmi explained, pouring some purified water into the cups.

"I've been working on a scanner to try and locate mine," Anakin piped up.

Lexa found her heart was suddenly aching with compassion for these people and the life circumstances they had been given. "Any attempt to escape—" Shmi continued.

"And they blow you up!" Anakin exclaimed darkly.

"I just..." Padme started, a helpless look on her features. "I can't believe that there's still slavery in the galaxy. The Republic's anti-slavery laws—"

"The Republic doesn't exist out here," Shmi corrected kindly "We must survive on our own."

"I'm sorry, I didn't know—" Padme continued.

"It's quite alright." Shmi assured her. "The galaxy can be a difficult place."

Lexa was unnaturally silent, mind thinking back to her own origins. The Morellians had come from Wild Space and settled on a planet in the Outer Rim. And then their own arrogance and wars had nearly left them extinct.

And then they had tried to sacrifice her in an effort to pray to their gods for more children. Slavery existed in many forms throughout the galaxy—people just didn't care enough to interfere beyond their own sphere.

Sensing the tension in the room, Anakin piped up. "Has anyone ever seen a Podrace?"

"They have Podracing on Malastare. Very fast, very dangerous." Qui-Gon answered, remembering his own experiences there.

Anakin tapped his fingers on the table. "I'm the only human who can do it."

Lexa nearly laughed. "If you're racing those things, you've gotta have some sort of Jedi reflexes."

Anakin's gaze narrowed, flickering over to Qui-Gon and then back at Lexa. "You're a Jedi Knight, aren't you?"

Qui-Gon seemed amused at the concept. "What makes you think that?"

"I saw your laser sword. Only Jedi carry that kind of weapon."

"Well maybe he killed a Jedi and took it from him," Lexa suggested lightly.

Anakin seemed more than surprised and disbelieving at the concept. "I don't think so! No one can kill a Jedi!"

"I wish that were so." Qui-Gon murmured.

Anakin looked at Lexa. "So you're one too?" She wasn't given the opportunity to answer before he continued. "I had a dream I was a Jedi once. I came back here and freed all of the slaves. Have you come to free us?" This time his gaze flickered back to Qui-Gon.

For a moment, Lexa thought that she saw guilt on the Master's face. "No, I'm afraid not."

"I think you have. Why else would you be here?" Anakin questioned pointedly.
