Chapter 16

Lucas

“Luc?”

“Hmm?”

“I don’t want to go out anymore.”

I looked down and saw Chloe’s sparkling green eyes gazing at me, a blissful smile on her face.  “Why, sweetheart?”

“I just want you to hold me.  We can’t cuddle like this if we’re outside.  This is perfect.”  She whispered those last words as she hugged me tighter, her warmth fusing with mine.  She was right. We didn’t have to leave my apartment.  We were perfect right where we were.

“Do you want to watch a movie?  I’ll make popcorn,” I suggested, almost lifting her and my body from the couch.

Her muffled laughter tickled my skin and she mumbled, “Sleep.  I would rather sleep.  All day.”  And she snuggled her head once more on my chest and closed her eyes, sighing contently.

Wrapping my arms around her and resting my head on her chin, I murmured, “Whatever you wish, baby.”

“Mmm.  This feels nice, don’t you think?”  Her voice was lethargic.

“Yes, it does.  Shh…  Sleep now.”  I kissed her forehead and drew her much closer, if ever that was still possible.  I lifted my hand and slowly combed my fingers through her short hair, loving the feel of the soft strands.   Everything was quiet for a moment except for the silent hums of our breathing.

She took a deep breath.  “Don’t want this day to end Luc….”

“Me too, sweetheart.  Me, too.”  I smiled, continuing the languid strokes on her hair.  She was so adorable.

“Love you…”

“Love you more.”

                                                                            ***********

Right now I was pissed.

Really, really pissed.

Why was the bastard visiting again?

Chloe was encircled in Marc’s arms, eyes closed, a peaceful smile on her face.  Even if his back was to me, I could clearly see just how tight he was embracing her from the way his suit stretched.  It wasn’t a pleasant sight to watch.

They were hugging like they had done it a thousand times before.   They seemed so content.  So… at ease.

And I hated it so much.  I despised the knowledge that Chloe had already been comforted by someone other than me.

I wanted to break the pretty man’s neck.

Her lids fluttered open and she immediately saw my glare.  I couldn’t hide my anger.  I was furious.  She stared at me a moment, awareness visible in her eyes,  then looked away and placed her shoulders on Marc’s and slowly pulled from his grasp.  There was a wobbly smile on her face.  Good.  Now she knew how I felt with the picture I just saw.

If only Blair wasn’t here to question what was brewing in my mind and Chloe becoming distressed in the process, I’d already be tossing the ass out the door.

“I’m so glad to see you again, Marc.  What made you stop by?”  She asked softly, her head tilted upward to look at him.

I couldn’t see Marc but I could hear the smile in his voice.  “Well, you were wishing this morning that you should’ve brought your quilt with you, and since I was having a meeting with a colleague who lived nearby, I decided to stop by and drop the blanket on the way.”

Chloe’s grin reached her ears.  “Oh, you didn’t have to do that.  But, thank you.  That’s very thoughtful of you.”

“It’s no problem,” he reached a finger and touched her cheek.  “Anything for you, Cay.”

She didn’t even flinch when he stroked her face.

And my eyes were seeing a hundred shades of red.

“Hey, who do we have here?”  Blair sauntered back in the hall.

Chloe and Marc both turned to look at Blair, and the moment Blair saw Marc, recognition dawned on her features.

“You’re Marc Colton.”  Of course she knew who he was.   He was a well-known businessman.

“Yes, I am.  And you are—?”

Blair extended her hand for a handshake.  “Blair Collins.  A pleasure to meet you.”

“Pleasure to meet you, too, Miss Collins.” He shook her hand briefly.

“Please, you can call me Blair.”

“Alright.  Blair it is.”

She smiled and wrapped her arms around my waist and rested her head on my shoulder.  “Why don’t you stay over for dinner?”

How about I just kick his sorry ass out of here?

And... cut!  I hope you won't get impatient.  Please?  And please VOTE for Luc and Chloe, too, okay?
