The end of the school year was approaching and Principal Nezu had planned something special for the entire school.

There would be a party in the Ballroom and everyone had to wear their best uniform and they highly recommended going with a partner. A perfect opportunity for those to ask their crush for a dance and hopefully a date.

Izuku was planning just that but there were 2 major problems in his head. One was the memory of his mom not approving of same-sex couples dating or even marrying, threatening him that if he did go out on a date with a man she would beat him raw to the point of no return. He shuddered as the verdanette also remembered his beating when he had decided to be upfront and had to call his childhood friend for help when she just left him there, in pain and lacerated. It was that memory that caused him to be afraid that he would get punched by his crush.

The rage on Katsuki's face was something the verdanette had never seen nor did he ever want to see that again, and the look of demonic fury from Mitsuki was even worse. Inko did not live to see another day, literally.

He was now under emergency care with Gang Orca, who despite his intimidating appearance took gentle care of the verdanette and Izuku warmed up to him fairly quickly. He allowed Katsuki to visit him whenever he could and taught him martial arts to better defend himself. Izuku was even surprised that the Pro Hero even taught him how to block certain Quirks using Tai Chi, which in detail he put in three separate analysis notebooks alone.

Now that leaves only one problem, dancing. Despite his agile appearance and martial arts, he can't dance for shit. For some reason, he just landed on his face whenever he tried, and it was giving him major anxiety that his crush would just laugh at him.

"Izuku, the ball does not require you to dance. You can just go and invite the person and just talk if you want. It takes a lot of practice to even do the Waltz." Kuugo said, picking up the verdanette for the 5th time. "Even I still have trouble with this dance."

"Yet by book it should be easy as it is just moving in a fucking square!" Izuku growled, rubbing his nose from the constant floor kissing. "I just don't want him to think that I'm useless..."

Aaaand there's the word and Kuugo sighed. His mom degraded him so much that the poor boy believed all that she had called him. Katsuki told him repeatedly that he wasn't useless, or a burden but after 10 years of this it would not be easy to erase.

"You need to stop telling yourself that, Izuku." Kuugo said and suggested that he sit down for a drink. "Katsuki doesn't think you are useless, and from what I have seen you are quite brilliant in analysis and martial arts, and you are a hard worker. You refuse to accept that you are useless."

"Yet my mind thinks otherwise..." Izuku mumbled, causing the Killer Whale Hero to look at him with sympathy. "It is just so hard to forget."

"...You don't have to forget, Izuku. You need to reflect with other pieces of the puzzle. For example, you know Katsuki is your friend and he does not think ill of you." Izuku nodded in confirmation and Kuugo continued. "You have friends who think highly of you, even when they know of your past."

"But Ura-"

"She was an exception who needed to be put in her place. I recall she got kicked out of UA, so you don't have to worry about her."

Izuku nodded again, now thinking about what Kuugo had said. He was right, other than her, his friends were with him through thick and thin. The verdanette smiled when he remembered Mineta sticking her to his grapevine and Momo tied her with the rope naked, preventing her from using her Quirk to levitate and hide. Everyone laughed at her humiliation in the Cafeteria that day.

Seeing the change in Izuku's demeanor he smiled and stood up to stretch a bit. "Now, let's continue on dance practice, I will make sure you are a master by the time the Heroics Gala arrives."

Izuku smiled and laughed. "Ok!"

-

Two weeks had passed and the Gala had arrived. Izuku had butterflies once again but he was now confident in his dancing skills thanks to his foster parent. He was now with Katsuki next to the snack bar, waiting for his date.

"Tch, she is sure running late. I told her she needed to be on time!" Katsuki growled, tightly holding his cup to prevent himself from releasing sparks. His uniform was not fireproof.

"I-I am sure she just caught up with something. You know Mei, she gets distracted easily and hyper-focuses on her 'babies'."

"Good thing that makes her cute then, otherwise I would have probably broken up with her long ago." Katsuki remarked and he got his head smacked by Izuku.

"That is not a good excuse, Kacchan." Izuku said sternly and glared when the blonde just clicked his tongue. He then turned and his stomach lurched as he saw his crush, on the other side of the floor talking with some of his 1-B classmates.

"T-there he is..." Izuku gulped, now rooted to the spot until his friend nudged him.

"Well, here's your chance, Nerd. You gonna ask and if he says no I'll kill him for ya."

Izuku laughed at his friend's threat and he immediately felt lighter, courage now coursing through his body. He walked across the floor with a determined look and tapped the boy on the shoulder.

The person turned to see who it was with slight annoyance as he turned down several girls already and was about to use his Quirk but suddenly widened his eyes as he saw the verdanette staring back at him with nervousness. "Hey, Midoriya. What's up?"

"H-hey Shinso, you doing good?" Izuku asked, nearly kicking himself for the stupid question. He decided to go for the kill. "I-I was wondering if you would like to dance a few with me."

Several of his classmates gasped at the proposal and a few giggled while Shinso stared at him in complete shock before smiling wide. "Sure, I was actually wondering when you would have the guts to ask me."

"Eh?" Izuku tilted his head in confusion before yelping as Shinso grabbed his wrist and pulled him to the dance floor just in time for the Waltz to play. "A-aah!"

Shinso giggled as he felt the verdanette stumble a few times before getting into the rhythm. "Not bad for the first dance, we should do this more often."

Izuku chuckled as well. "We should, but be advised I have two left feet. It took me weeks to get the momentum right."
