It's been three weeks. Basically a month. He had no clue she could hold a grudge like this. For the 17th time today he grabbed his phone, no notifications. He wouldn't expect to have any, except he used to constantly get bombarded by the dragon girl. He had to get dressed to work at the barbeque stand. His dad was out with a cold, he was such a wimp with disease. So he had to cover both their shifts, as if his mom would help, she wouldn't. Red son threw his hair up in a ponytail and got dressed. He felt so ridiculous every time he wore the apron and paper hat, but it was part of the aesthetic. He had to.

Throughout the day he kept thinking about his girlfriend. If he could even call her that anymore. How had all of this gone down because of a necklace? He felt it around his neck, he really missed her. He continued to wear it religiously, it was the only part of her he had. She meant it as a way to keep her with him all the time. It worked, a little, it doesn't work as well when she refuses to see him.

Sometimes while working, he'd look up and think he'd see her, but it was only his imagination. Why would she want to see him. He wasn't sure if she understood how important she had been to him. That was probably part of the reason she paused things with him. When he was on break he saw her live streaming and immediately joined. She looked so happy. Her and MK were answering questions about their most recent 'save of the city.' Mei's facials dropped for a moment before she kept going, she probably saw that he joined her audience.

Mei kept trying to smile, but why was Red son watching? Did he miss her? Wasn't he happy without her being a burden to him anymore. He probably enjoyed spending time with her, but was probably really mad at her.

He smiled softly when he saw her laughing across the screen. He left the live stream and went back to work. Sometime soon, he would find her, and fix everything. He just had to get to her. She refused to answer a text! Why would she answer the door if he came knocking? He wanted to go find her, and explain it all. But for now he had to serve customers.

At the end of his shift he tossed off his apron and hat, and grabbed his phone, once again, nothing. He thought about what he would say if he ever saw Mei again, well surely he would, but he didn't know when. She said he wasn't telling her things, but what was it she wanted to know? He thought he was boring... did she not trust him? Of all things, they had to have trust at least, or else a demon and dragon would never work.

Mei slumped on the floor, she leaned against her bed. Why had he joined her live stream? He must have missed her, a little? She wasn't going to outright say it but, she really missed spending time with him. Maybe she could just go... see... him? She looked at the time, he's probably still at work. She grabbed her jacket and raced outside. When she had gotten back from her instance with Red son, MK told her she was a little harsh on him, but she was still valid in the way she was feeling about the trust in their relationship. He said,

"That's what you get for dating a hotheaded demon!" And she replied with,

"I know but that wasn't what I was thinking about when we started this! I was just thinking, oh I genuinely like this boy, we get along and he's really sweet!" MK just rolled his eyes at her.

"Red son? Sweet? Okay." But he had noticed how much this actually bothered her, and he did try to help. "I may not know him as well as you do, but by how things look, you seem to care about each other, for some reason, and honestly I can't tell if it's adorable or disgusting, and I can't believe-" Mei glared at him, and he had simply shut up. "But, I'm here for you, and I'll do whatever I can to help." Mei recalled the memory like it was yesterday, to be fair it was only a month ago, but it was still a bit ago. By the time Mei was done in her memories, she found herself at the stand. She sat down at a table towards the back, and watched. One minute turned to ten minutes, which turned to an hour. And then that quickly became hours. She only realized how long she had been there when she saw him leave and close up. She saw him looking around and she grabbed her things and tried to act preoccupied.

Red son finally walked out and he looked around, doing his usual check, when he saw someone sitting on a table, behind a bush. Great, now he has to kick someone out, not that he really minded ruining people's days.

"I'm sorry but we're closed-" He paused as the person looked up at him, Mei. She swiftly stood up and shoved her chair back, taking a step about to run off. Red son stared, but quickly grasped onto her wrist. Mei looked back at him, her eyes sparkled with anxiety.

"I'm sorry I got to-" She began, but quickly stopped talking when she saw the hope in his eyes flicker away.

"Mei, please." He whispered. He was not at all prepared for a confrontation with her. He hadn't spoken to her in a month, how was he planning to mend this? Mei walked with him as he led her over to a bench.

"Let's just end this okay. I know you don't like this sorta together thing." She shook her head and looked down at her hands. Red son stared at her, his heart sank deeper than he thought possible. That was the last thing he wanted.

"No." He stated flatly. Mei's eyes enlarged. "I'm not ending this." They sat in silence. "I didn't want to tell you because I was afraid to hurt you." He sat up straight. She looked at him and her eyes caught the necklace. He was wearing it. Her gaze softened.

"I just want you to be honest with me. Even if you think it'll hurt me. I'm always surrounded by lies, I don't want that to be us as well." She spoke somberly. He looked at her with sympathy, and grabbed her hand, holding it in his. "I'm sorry I got so worked up over the necklace. Just tell me if something is bothering you okay? We're a team." Her eyes teared up when she smiled at him.

"I will, don't worry. I trust you more than anyone else." He then put his hand on her shoulder and she blushed. "And I hope you'll do the same." She nodded. Red son could tell she still looked uncertain of something. "What's wrong?" His eyes narrowed.

"N-no it's not really anything." She waved her arm dismissively. He rolled his eyes.

"What is it?" He demanded. She sighed.

"Sometimes I just felt like I liked you a lot more than you liked me. I just don't want you to think you have to be part of this. I'd understand if you care but not like that." She fidgeted with her hands.

"Would you shut up?" He groaned. Mei froze. Did he just tell her to, shut up? She glared at him. Red son grabbed her shoulders and faced her. He put his hand on her face, leaned in, and kissed her. After a moment he pulled away from her and she stared.

"Things aren't always what they seem." She whispered.

"We just have to trust each other." He held his necklace up, and she dived into him, wrapping her arms around him and burying her head in his chest.

"Always." She hummed. Red son tightened his arms around her and rested his head on hers. They could only hope to be like this forever, they'd never give up on one another.
