--Esmerelda's POV--
"You look pretty," I tell Kylie as I walk into the apartment with my bag, "Where's Harry taking you today?" I ask."Me? Didn't Nick tell you we were going to the school's Spring festival?" She asks confused. I check my phone and see he didn't text me at all today.
"No? I can be ready in twenty if that's cool?" I tell her. She tells me to hurry because the guys are coming down in a minute. I rush into my bedroom and change into the dress I promised Nick I'd wear the next time I saw him. Thankfully I shaved my legs last night. I look at myself in the mirror and flip my hair a little bit for volume.
"Hey baby," Harry says kissing Kylie.
"Where's Nick?" I ask looking past him.
"He's not here?" He asks.
"Oh god," I whisper trying to think about where he could be, "He hasn't disappeared like this since he told us about his mom," I point out.
"I'll check the roof," Harry says walking out.
"Text me if you find him. I'm gonna go to the practice rooms," I tell them as Kylie asks what she can do, "Stay here in case we are overreacting and he's just running late," I say as I shut the door. I take my phone out as I jog to the school getting weird looks from students. Every call goes straight to voicemail. I push open the doors and look in the small windows getting deja vu.
He's sitting in the one all the way at the end, his phone is pressed to his ear as he paces the room. Before I walk in he runs a hand through his hair...he only does that when he's stressed. His eyes jump in my direction as I open the door with a worried look.
"Lexi, I'm booking a ticket and coming tomorrow. I'm not letting you do this alone," he says sounding frustrated, "I have to go. I'll text you my flight details," he states before hanging up.
"What are you doing here?" He asks looking at his phone, "Shit. I forgot what day it was," he exhaustedly says.
"Nick?"
"I'm fine," he says covering his mouth with his hand, "It's fine. I'm going back to London tomorrow. There have been some complications with my mom and I don't want my sister alone," he says as I walk over putting my hand on his arm, "I know we have a lot planned for spring break," he says as I cut him off.
"Stop, don't apologize for looking after your family," I tell him. He drops his head onto my shoulder as he wraps his arms around me, "I can help you find the cheapest flight," I whisper rubbing the back of his neck.
"No, go have fun," he says lifting his head. I shake my head and look at him like he's crazy, "You look beautiful it shouldn't be wasted on sitting in my apartment at a computer," he tells me.
"You're right. How about I cook you dinner while you look at flights?" I ask, "I should text them that you're okay. You had us worried," I tell him as he pulls away.
"You're too good to me," he says giving me a quick kiss, "I'll make it up to you," he promises me.
The two of us walk back to the apartment talking about everything that's happening back home. His mom is refusing to do chemo and his sister has been trying to convince her to continue. I don't know how they can deal with this without crying every five seconds. Harry and Kylie stayed back until they saw Nick to head to the festival. Nick said he didn't want to ruin everyone's day because of him. He's ridiculous.
"What are you in the mood for?" I ask looking in their fridge. They have some marinating chicken and some questionable things.
"Harry and I were going to cook the chicken tonight. You don't have to do this," he says as I shake my head.
"Focus on buying your ticket. This is my way of showing that I care about you," I tell him taking the chicken out. I grab some potatoes and set them on the counter with carrots. They did the hard part I just had to put some extra seasoning on it and pop it into the oven. I wait for the oven to preheat before putting it inside. Nick sighs from behind me making my heart hurt.
"Every ticket is like $1,000 more than it would be if I bought it weeks out," he says leaning his forehead on his hand.
"Give me a second," I tell him thinking of something. I walk into the other room on my phone and make a quick call. When I walk back out he is typing away on his phone.
"I pulled some strings with some family friends and I managed to get you a flight that leaves at 3 a.m. this morning," I tell him as I stand behind him. I log into my email and follow the link she sent me to an airline flight she's working on.
"Two tickets?" He reads aloud.
"Oh, I only told her one," I tell him feeling nervous all of a sudden. He spins around in his chair and takes my hand in his.
"Come with me. My sister is dying to meet you and we will both need someone to keep our minds off of everything," he says as I look at the screen behind him.
"Are you sure that's what you want?" I ask.
"I know it's a lot but if you're up for it I would love to have you with me," he says making me smile.
"Book the tickets," I tell him as he spins back around, "But you better let me pay you back".
"Yeah yeah," he says as he holds my hand over his shoulder as he finishes booking everything.
When I finish dinner he tells me more about London and all the things he wants to show me. It's adorable how excited he is about me coming with him. I guess I am going to London after all. Good thing he forced me to update my passport when we started dating, "I'm so happy you're coming," he smiles as he brings out dishes to the sink.
"I should go pack. We will be there for four days," I tell him as I start putting the leftovers into the fridge. The smile on his face has been frozen since he paid for the tickets. This might be my favorite moment in the past couple of months we have been together, "I can meet you back here at 1?" I ask as he turns around.
"Yeah, I'll tell Harry and Kylie all the details 'cause I think she's staying here tonight," he says.
"Sounds good," I tell him with a wide smile, "See you later". He leans over with his hands in the soapy water as I walk over and give him a kiss.
