TW: Eddie is mad, but actually sad. Healthy argument.
Scraping metal against formica counter tops ripped you from your slumber. The heels of your palm rubbed away the sleep in your eyes until you saw flashing lights behind your eyelids.
Grogginess clouded your vision still, stepping tentatively onto the soft carpet of Eddie's bedroom. You swayed on sore legs, your body was just as tired as your mind. The nerve wracking experience from the night before crawled up your spine and threatened to push tears out of your dry eyes.
You shuffled about searching for your slippers as you knew the the kitchen floor would be freezing. Slipping into them you trudged with heavy steps into the hall you saw bright light shining through the open blinds in the living room filtering through the smoke wafting from the stove. A quick peek around the corner revealed Eddie fanning a pan on the burner with a dish towel, muttering obscenities under his breath.
You didn't want to scare him, so you tried to make your movements audible. Dragging your feet across the linoleum as you made your way to him.
"There she is!" Robin.
Your head whipped around, searching for her. Finding her lanky form sprawled out on the floor amongst card board boxes.
"G'mornin baby." Eddie's grumpy morning voice met your ears as his hands slithered around your waist to pull you against his chest.
"What's going on?" You questioned.
"Eddie told me what happened. I came over to help." Robin shrugged, putting VHS tapes and cassettes into a small box.
"Help with what?" You twisted your neck to look up and back at Eddie, confused and searching for answers.
"We're leaving. I found an apartment in Indie for us." His voice was cold as he jabbed his pointer finger into a non-local newspaper.
"I didn't think we were moving right away!" You pulled out of his embrace, turning to confront him.
"What do you mean? The cops have been waiting for a reason to lock me up and the perfect opportunity has fallen into their laps." He grumbled, rolling his eyes and returning to the stove.
"Eddie I have a job! You have a job... we can't just leave!" You huff.
"Well, employers don't give a notice when they fire people. So why should you notify them when you quit?" Robin quipped.
"Because I like my boss, he's nice. Plus I have to break my lease and I won't get my deposit back!" Exasperated you buried your face into your palms and took a grounding breath.
"Just call them. God." Eddie shot back.
"Hey don't get snippy with me!" You shoved your finger into his shoulder.
"I'm not trying to be snippy," he said through gritted teeth. "I'm trying not to scream!" His voice rose, "I have to sell my house! My uncles house!"
You stepped back, immediately ashamed. You hadn't even considered that as part of the moving plan.
"I've just gotten back. I've already went and ruined my second chance." He scoffed, slamming his fist onto the counter.
Robin winced, "Ed, you don't have to sell your house."
"What am I supposed to do then Buckley?" His words shot out.
"You could rent it out." She shrugged.
"And let some crack head come trash it? No way." He shook his head, "I've already done that once here and I know it wasn't fun to clean up."
