Shane broke the lock of the barn and lifted the beam. Seconds later walkers began to spill out. Shane had left them without a choice. Now they had to deal with it, whether they liked it or not. Whether it was right or not.
"Dad?" Kyllian asked with a shiver in his voice. Neither of them had a gun. They hadn't wanted to be a part of Shane's plan.
"Stay back." Leland said. "The others have guns."
That's what they did. They stayed back and watched a rain of bullets mow down walker after walker. Their bodies fell down one after another, landing on top of each other in heaps in some cases.
The most awful thing about it was watching the Greene family react to the slaughter. It was their family and neighbors that were being felled down one by one. When it was over and the sound of gunshots ebbed away all that could be heard were their sobs.
Silence overtook them and it was almost like they were waiting for the second wave. Bracing themselves for the next danger because this wasn't dangerous. What was in that barn wasn't as earth shattering as it should've been. As Shane made it seem.
Beth's sobs were the loudest. After the haze of the first couple of seconds she stumbled forward. One of those rotting corpses was her mother. No one tried to stop her, maybe this was something she needed.
She dropped down to her knees beside one of the corpses and rolled it over gently. "Ma..." She whispered in between sobs.
The corpse, the walker, sprung back to live. The air was filled with the sound of screaming. Everyone reacted fast. Kyllian grabbed his pocket knife and opened the blade as he ran to rescue. The walker, the poor girl's mother, already had a tight grip on her and pulled face and neck towards its bare rotted teeth.
Shane Rick and Glenn all grabbed Beth and tried to pull her away. Then Kyllian jammed the knife right between the eyes. Beth was safe. Traumatized but otherwise alright.

Kyllian was hesitant about what he was about to do. Hershel had rightfully told them they needed to leave. But he couldn't just leave after what his group had done to them. It was wrong. He traveled up the porch steps and knocked on the door.
He waited for a while. Right when he thought the door wouldn't open, it swung open with force. Maggie looked furious.
"Hasn't my father just told you people to leave!" She ranted.
"I'm not here to argue about that." He swallowed. "I just wondered where you keep the shovels. Oh, and maybe a place you want your..." He averted his eyes. He should've gone about this differently. "I'm so sorry about your family, and I thought maybe I could help by giving them a place to rest."
"What makes you think we want your help?" She crossed her arms.
"What my group did was wrong. I should've done something to stop it. This was the only way I could think of to help."
"You want to feel better about it."
"Yes." He admitted, honestly.
"You'll find a shovel in the barn. There's a nice tree range by the barn, start digging there." She closed the door in his face as soon as she had finished her sentence.
Kyllian sighed. She was justified in her anger, but it still stung. He walked back to the barn where Andrea and Theresa had covered all of the bodies beneath old blankets and tarps they'd found in the barn.
"And?" Theresa asked.
"Still mad, but Maggie allowed me to start digging. So that's something." He replied.
