"NO."
Warren's mouth went straight to the floor when David turned him down ruthlessly. David didn't even want to hear about the salary or whatever benefits he might get if he became Warren's bodyguard. That's how uninterested he was with Warren's offer. Moreover, the idea of being Warren's bodyguard repulsed David so much that he wasn't able to hide the disgust on his face.
When Warren saw the grimace on David's face, he set his jaw aggressively. "What's with the ugly reaction, Ladrico?
"Huh?" David blinks.
Warren narrowed his eyes at David. "Spare me with your act, David. You know what you're doing."
David raised a brow at Warren. "Oh, am I? Please, tell me. What am I doing right now?"
"You're acting like I'm some kind of communicable disease that you want to stay away from."
"Well, you're not wrong for that. Ten points for you," David shrugs.
Warren's nostrils flared in anger when he traced the thick sarcasm in David's tone. "Why are you acting like an asshole? Also, why are you so repulsed about the idea of us being close? You dislike me that much?"
The corner of David's lips curled up. "Wow. So not liking you makes me an asshole now? First of all, I am not obligated in any way to like you or any people in general."
"I didn't say you're obligated to like me."
David scoffs. "Well, that is certainly what you're trying to say here."
"I... that's not... fuck, you're taking this the wrong way." Warren mumbled in a frustrated voice. He ran his fingers across his curls, stress was palpable in his expression.
"Because you're doing it the wrong way, airhead." David replied and proceeded to wear his protective gloves.
Warren ignored the nickname David used on him and focused on his words. "What? What do you mean I'm doing it the wrong way?"
David stopped momentarily and gave Warren a pointed look. "All of this would've been settled if you just accepted my decision, yet you didn't. You're acting stubborn about this ridiculous job offer, even though I rejected you already."
Natahimik naman si Warren at hindi nakapagsalita. Naginhawaan naman kaunti si David sa ginawang pananahimik ni Warren. Sinuot niya na ang isa niyang gloves at saka lumakad papunta sa shooting line.
David grabbed his practice bow and fetched one arrow from the quiver. David nocked the arrow and was about to pull the string to initiate a shot when Warren said something that made him still.
"What can I do to convince you to accept this job?"
David blew an exasperated sigh and looked over his shoulder. He almost backed away when he saw the disgusting determination in Warren's brown eyes.
"There's nothing you can do that could change my mind. Besides, we have a lot of upcoming matches, so I need to focus on practicing. I won't have the time to babysit you."
"You're not babysitting me!" Warren exclaimed in a high-pitched voice. Warren's voice even cracked, which had David laugh inwardly.
"Yeah, right." David teased and brought his eyes back to the target.
Warren huffed and walked with heavy steps towards David. He settled himself beside David. "How many times do I have to tell you, huh? You're just going to accompany me everywhere I go, and most importantly, protect me at all times."
David cringed at the idea of protecting the apathetic bastard. "Exactly what babysitting is. And I would rather spend my time with my bow and the target than you, okay?"
