Fifteen
WHEN THE TEAM arrived at the hotel facade, they didn't expect an audience to be waiting for them. Flashes from multiple cameras illuminated the entire surroundings, and everyone inside the van couldn't help but squint their eyes.
"Ano ba yan! Ansakit sa mata!" Reklamo ni Niko, isa sa miyembro ng archery team.
"Why are there so many people outside?" Another teammate of David asked.
"Are those reporters outside?! Sandali, hindi ako handa!" Riley gasped in horror, and he started moving like he had ants in his pants.
David grabbed Riley by the shoulder and said, "Dude! Stop it. You look fine."
Riley stopped for a moment, and he managed to catch the little bit of irritation in David's tone. "Oof, someone's cranky. I wonder why..."
David glared at him. "Shut up, Anderson. I'm not in the mood right now."
Riley's lips curled into a wicked grin, and his eyes shone with mischief. Words were dancing around his tongue, and the lines were something like this: "But I'm definitely in the mood to mess with you."
Iven cleared his throat, authority rolling off of him like waves. Everyone snapped their heads in his direction, including Riley and David.
"I just want to remind everyone that this is not just an ordinary party. Important people might have been invited to this gathering. That's why I want everyone to be on their best behavior, understood? Don't do anything that would bring shame to our team." Iven spoke in a stern voice, making it clear to his students that his words should be taken earnestly.
Then Iven fixed his gaze on his student, who was known for being a chaos magnet. "Especially you, David."
Napaturo pa si David sa sarili niya. "Ako?"
"Yes, you." May diin na sagot ni Iven. "Don't do anything that would embarrass the Summers. Just for one night, don't do anything stupid. Are we clear?"
Napanguso naman si David at napahalukipkip. "Ako na naman ang nakita mo coach."
"Paanong hindi ka makikita, eh anlaki-laki 'mong bakulaw." Riley smothered his laugh as he uttered those words.
David flipped Riley off, and then he turned his eyes back to Iven. "You know I haven't done anything wrong in the past few months, Coach. I have been a very good boy."
A lot of David's teammates snorted at his choice of words, but Riley was the only one who had the guts to mock David for it.
"Were you now? That must've been hard," Riley drawls, and he earns another death glare from David.
"You two. Stop it," Iven growled, and he brought a hand up as if he's about to smack both of their heads.
Riley was ready to dodge, while David was prepared to use Riley as a shield for the incoming attack. When Iven saw their actions, he pinched his eyelids, and a resigned breath escaped him.
"Just do anything that would get you killed, Ladrico," Iven said.
Everyone inside the van burst into fits of laughter. Heat crept up at the back of David's neck and an adorable flush painted his freckled cheeks. Riley was the loudest among the sea of laughter. The blond man even threw his head back like Iven's words were the funniest thing he ever heard.
Ang OA talaga ng gago na 'to. Mamaya ka sa 'kin. Nanggagalaiti na sabi ni David sa isipan niya.
"Good luck on standing on a corner like a tree, David," Niko said playfully.
