penelope campbell has known nelson neumann her whole life and were inseparable. one day he made a decision that caused their friendship to crumble into pieces.
i woke up to my brother knocking on my door. "come in" i said sitting up while rubbing my eyes. "damn you really look like shit" i rolled my eyes as i laid back down pulling my blankets over my head. "i was just joking penelope.. but i will say you've had better days" he continued. i let out a sigh as i sat back up preparing to yell at him.
"ashton be nice to your sister!!" my mom scolded him from downstairs. i gave him a cocky smile while he rolled his eyes. "what do you want" i turned to grab my phone. "noah said they're throwing a birthday party later and niles really wants you to be there. i'll text you when we're about to leave" he shut the door as i got up to take a shower.

i decided it was the perfect time to start getting ready. i sat on my vanity chair and started on my makeup. i did a simple look since i didn't want to seem too "desperate" i brushed my hair and put it into two braids. i got changed and found a beanie that i decided to but on last minute.

"penny are you ready?" ashton knocked on my door before opening it. "yeah just give me a second i can't find my airpods" i lifted my pillow and found them hiding under my bedsheet. "can't believe i'm saying this but your outfit finally matches for once" he mumbled while looking back down to his phone. "thanks i guess?" i said while picking up my own phone checking the time, 6:30. "alr get in the car i'm gonna put my shoes on real quick"

i walked into the house feeling a little nervous. i went through a crowd of boys going into the kitchen to get a drink. i opened the fridge grabbing a dr pepper. as i made my way out towards the living room i bumped into someone. "omg i'm so sorry i didn't see where i was going" i apologized quickly. "you're good" the person responded causing me to look up.
a pink tint started covering my cheeks. this boy was really cute. "i like your outfit" he gave me a small smile. "thank you" i whispered still staring. "you know it's rude to stare right?" he let out a chuckle. "my names jax by the way" he continued extending his arm out for me to shake. "penelope" i shook his hand quickly.
"not to be nosy but where were you going?" he brought the can up to his lips. "gross you like root beer?" i scrunched my nose completely ignoring his question before. "i know you're not talking with your dr pepper" he sassed back. "for your information dr pepper is actually the best soda ever invented" i rolled my eyes.
"for your information dr pepper is actually the best soda ever invented" he repeated in a nerdy voice with his finger in the air. "shut up" i slapped his hand playfully and we both started laughing. "are you just not going to answer my question or what?" he said in a girly voice. "i was just going to the living room" i responded with a big smile on my face.
this is the most happiest i've been this whole week. "is it okay if i just chill with you? i can't find my friends and you seem really cool" he started walking next to me. "sure" i nodded. i felt someone's eyes on me. i looked around the room but still couldn't find the person who was staring at me. one second i'm talking to the new friend i made and then the next i'm getting pulled into the backyard my someone.
"what the fuck let go of me" i yell pulling my hand away and turning around to see who was pulling me. i was ready to yell once again until i met eyes with nelson. i let out a loud sigh as i covered my body with my arms. "what do you want nelson" i turned to look at anywhere else but his face. "what were you doing with him?" he asked turning my face to look at him.
"who, jax? why do you care" i rolled my eyes. "i asked you a question penny" he huffed. i didn't know what to say. it was a simple stupid question yet i didn't know how to answer it. i shifted uncomfortably as i hugged myself tighter. god why didn't i bring a sweater.
"not that it's any of your business but we were just talking" i looked back up to his eyes. he looked concerned as he started to take off his hoodie. he extended his arm out for me to take it but i refused. "i don't need your stupid sweater nelson" i let my arms fall to my sides. "penelope" he paused.
"just take the fucking sweater" he dropped it over my shoulder. i gave in and slipped it over my head folding it since it was too long on me. "listen i know you don't wanna hear this but i'm sorry. i didn't mean to upset you at all" he looked down at me waiting for my response. "i hate you for what you did" i spat out turning to look at him. "but i miss you like a little kid" i continued as i gave him a small smile. i entered the house making my way back to the living room.
