After getting back to their grandma's place, Marnie and Melanie set off on making the witches brew.
Once they finished it, Melanie poured it into the talisman. All that was left was to chant the spell, and hope the light comes on.
"What are you waiting for?" Dylan asked the twins as they held the talisman.
"I can't remember grandma's spell." Marnie said.
"Me either." Melanie told him.
"What do you mean you can't remember?" He asked.
"It was old English or Welsh, or something." Marnie said.
"I mean, give us break. We have trouble remembering Agua." Melanie pointed out.
"I thought you said you were witches. I mean, the least you can do is remember a dumb spell."
"Okay! Ok." Marnie said as she and Melanie tried to think back and recall the incantation.
"I got nothing." Melanie said.
"Betty March, Betty Gunther. Betty Gugginheim is all that's bid?" Marnie tried. It didn't work, so she tried again. "Ok, better march. Better get there. Better get going, before there's no more beds." Again it didn't work.
"That's the best you can do?" Dylan asked her. "Why didn't you write it down or-"
He was interrupted by Sophie quietly chanting something. As she quietly listened, Melanie recognized it as the spell their grandmother chanted over the talisman.
"What is it, Soph?" Marnie asked.
"Ba ke ma. Be ke ke feer. Ba ke ke gain." Sophie chanted the spell louder, so everyone could hear exactly what she was saying.
"That's it!" Melanie cheered.
"How did you remember it, Soph?" Marnie asked.
"It sounded pretty, so I made up a song for it. I like to make up songs." Sophie answered.
"You know, grandma says, spells are stronger when you have more than one witch. You wanna help us, Sophie?" Melanie asked her younger sister.
"Ok." Sophie answered.
Sophie began to chant the spell, and Melanie and Marnie tried to keep up with her. It didn't exactly work.
"Great, it's not working. Now what?" Dylan asked.
"Uhmm..." Marnie tried to think.
"Grandma said spells are simple. You just want something, then let yourself have it." Melanie answered.
"Okay, let's do it." Marnie said while holding the talisman out for Sophie to grab hold of.
"Ba ke ma. Ba ke ke feer. Ba ke ke gain. Clydith leithum, anorith bid!" The three sisters chanted out in unison. Once they finished, the light on the talisman turned on, and stayed on.
"You did it, you guys. It's lit." Dylan said in awe.
"I did it. We did it. We're witches." Marnie said as she hugged her twin and younger sister.
"You can celebrate later. C'mon, let's get out of here." Dylan said as he rushed out the door. Sophie and Melanie following him, as Marnie grabbed their grandmother's red cloak.
Once they made it back into town, they went back into the old movie theater. They left the door open and carried the talisman over to their mother and grandmother. Trying to see if that would work, to bring them back out of their frozen state.
Dylan grabbed said talisman, and waved it around in front of their grandmother and mother's faces. Trying to wake them up. Nothing happened.
"Why isn't it working?" Dylan asked as he walked back to his sisters.
"I don't know." Marnie replied.
Melanie thought back, and looked at the talisman. Trying to come up with ideas on why nothing happened, when a thought hit her.
"Grandma said something about installing it." Melanie told them.
"What? Installing it? Installing it where?" Dylan asked.
"Mortals see, mortals do." Melanie said. Remembering what their grandmother said earlier.
"What?" Dylan asked.
"Do you remember grandma said, about our traditions being imitation of theirs?" Melanie asked.
"What about it?"
"When it's dark on halloween, where do you put the candle?" Marnie rhetorically asked, as she had finally caught onto what her twin sister was thinking about.
All four of them walked back outside, and stopped a far amount away from the jack o' lantern in town square.
"You're kidding!" Dylan said as he looked at the giant pumpkin, then back to the twins. "You're not seriously thinking of going in that thing, are you?"
"We have to." Marnie said.
"It's the only way to save mom and grandma." Melanie told him.
As they walked off, Marnie gave Melanie the talisman and pulled up the hood of Aggie's cloak. They were walking past a corner, when someone pulled them back against the wall.
It was Luke.
