A pearl always got insulted by the fishes around,
For being stuck in a nacre.
A nacre that is strong, resilient, and iridescent.
It only wanted the best for its pearl.

The pearl never wanted to be treated that way,
But it appreciated home.
It didn't stay away because it knew that the nacre was the only thing it had.

As it was growing older, the nacre decided to let the pearl be free.
The pearl kept trying to find an environment that would fit.
It kept trying to change the fishes it interacted with,
But they all gave it the same treatment.

It tried to shine and be pure to get attention,
But being the only pearl there is,
It was usually ignored.

Over time, it stopped caring and started to look dirty,
The fishes still didn't care.

Every time the pearl tried to get out of its shell,
The fishes either ignored or insulted it.

They only came at it when they needed help with comedy.
They wouldn't stop eating away those tiny pearl pieces,
Even though it wasn't edible, and hurt both sides.

The pearl decided to go alone,
But it still ended up being bothered by unwanted fishes.

After a while, it finally found its hiding place.
Now that it's finally alone, it shined better than it previously would've.
That same pearl was used as inspiration for the design of many necklaces.
It now realizes that inconsistency isn't the only thing consistent.
