The Walking Dead ———— 01x05
Vivian Ford ——— September 2010
THE PLAN was to abandon their small camp on the outskirts of the city and head for the Atlantic CDC. In hopes of finding a cure for Jim, but also to find a safe place to live. The world was growing more dangerous by the second and the quarry wouldn't do, now you needed four walls and a roof to survive.
The camp was packed up, everything valuable placed within Dale's RV as they prepared to abandon what had been their home since the beginning. Keeping the RV running was now the top priority, it was the most secure off all their vehicles and could he used as shelter if things got bad.
Vivian stood beside T-Dog once everything that had made up their little camp was packed, playing with the fraying ends of her shorts as Shane cleared his throat.
"Everyone listen up." He instructed, holding his shotgun against his waist while Rick dusted off his sheriffs hat beside him. "Those of you with C.B.s, we're gonna be on channel forty. Let's keep the chatter down, okay? Now you got a problem, don't have a C.B., can't get a signal, anything at all, you're gonna hit your horn one time. That'll stop the caravan. Any questions?"
"We're, uh...we're not going." Morales spoke up, earning a few confused looks from everyone as he glanced back at his wife.
"We have family in Birmingham." Morales wife explained to the group. "We want to be with our people."
Vivian glanced at Glenn upon Mrs.Morales words, thinking about how they were all just one step closer to being alone in this world.
"You go on your own, you won't have anyone to watch your back." Shane reminded them.
"We'll take the chance." Morales insisted as his daughter buried her head in her mother's shoulder. This would be an emotional goodbye for most of them. "I got to do what's best for my family." He explained, his eyes trained on Rick.
"You sure?" Rick asked, Morales nodded while turning his head over his shoulder to look at his wife. "We walked about it. We're sure."
"All right." Rick nodded, looking towards Shane as the two shared a nod before crouching down and digging through the bag of guns the Operation URM group had brought back. He pulled out a small shot gun and a box of bullets, presenting them out to Morales. "The box is half full." Shane explained from behind Rick, earning a scoff from Daryl.
"Relax, nobody's given' up your arrows." Vivian spat towards the redneck. Morales had done so much for camp and the people who lived here, it was only fair he received something to protect his family with.
"Thank you all...for everything." Morales wife said, tears brimming in her brown eyes as Lori approached her sombrely and embraced her in a hug. Vivian watched as her mother followed, pulling Mrs.Morales into a tight hug while Thomas ran up to their son and pulled him into a hug, Sofia doing the same for their daughter with tears running down her cheeks. The young girls exchanged gifts, Sofia giving up her beaded bracelet while Morales's daughter gave up her doll.
"Channel forty." Rick said to Morales once the two man shook hands. "If you change your minds."
With one last goodbye, the Morales family walked off towards their vehicle, the small family getting into the van together as they prepared to leave on their own. Vivian could only think about how this would be the last time any of them saw the Morales family. Wether they lived or died, none of them would ever see each other again with the way the new world worked.
