Control

Elwyn's P.O.V.

I was doing some basic stretching with Cyrus by my side, jumping around excitedly. I laughed and sat on the floor when I was done and Cyrus sat in front of me. I slowly let my body and mind relax as I threaded my fingers through the fur on his neck area.

"Let me in," I intoned, letting my powers seep out of me.

The familiar feeling of the world around me vanishing claimed me, and I called out to Cyrus's spirit.

"Elwyn," Cyrus's familiar voice answered in my mind.

"You know what's happening later, right? You ready?" I asked, not speaking out loud.

"Yes. I'll support you as much as I can, but I can't guarantee that I have full control. Will you take my collar off?" Cyrus replied.

"No, I can't control your powers as well as we'd all like to believe I can. Neither of us have full control. Taking your collar off would be suicide. Anyway, the challenge will be starting soon. I'll be dropping the link now," I sighed.

"Okay. Good luck out there."

"Thanks," I smiled, inhaling and exhaling deeply as I withdrew from Cyrus's mind.

Sudden awareness of my surroundings crashed into focus, and I blinked a few times to adjust my sight before standing up and stretching my body.

"Come on, buddy. We've got a fight to win."

Practically the entire pack was there. It was expected; this was the fight between their ex-Beta's daughter and well, the ex-Loser. I was standing with Cyrus at one end of the circle that the crowd formed. Tawni stood at the other end, looking a little nervous and more than a little annoyed. Kenan was with her, a grim look on his face. He was snapping at his sister and I laughed at their conversation.

"Why the hell did you pick a fight with her? She has a dragon for a pet, for Pete's sake! How stupid can you get? She's in the Ghost Pack, she's a fucking Ghost! Not the thing you used to bully, stupid! And you've barely recovered from your injury, you really think you can win? I don't even know how to help you!" Kenan nagged.

"I won't back down from this fight! Nolen was supposed to be mine! And she took him from me! This is a fight to protect what's mine! I'm a Beta, she's nothing!" Tawni retorted.

"No, you're not a Beta. You simply have Beta blood inside you. She's not nothing, she's a dragon tamer, a Ghost, and highly likely your Luna-to-be, which means that by the Goddess's will, she's about fifty times stronger than you," Kenan stated, rubbing his temples, "I've seen her in action, and I'm not going in there to haul your ass out if you get thrashed."

Tawni seemed to be getting more and more annoyed by the second. She snapped back a "don't worry, you won't have to" and turned away from her brother, signifying that the conversation was over.

"Hey, Tawni! You can back out now if you want to, you know. I mean, all that stiff movement can't possibly help you win, right?" I shouted to her, enjoying the look of rage that appeared on her face.

Trying to fight me for Nolen? As if she had a chance. Whether or not I won this fight, Nolen would still be my mate, and I had no intention to lose.

"How are you feeling?" Nolen asked, suddenly appearing beside me.

"Pretty darn good, honestly. You?" I smirked.

"Fucking nervous. If things get too rough, just forfeit," Nolen replied, his eyes full of worry.
