P.O.V William.
My phone buzzed in my hand, I received a text from Allyson. "Loser, you better have a good reason for ditching me." I chuckled and quickly typed back. "No, not really." The grass under my feet was wet and muddy, why must Alaric drag me all the way out here. It better be important this time, I really hate canceling on Allyson. The trail to the clearing had fresh footprints in bedded into the mud. Carefully I covered them with mine so it looked like only one person came through this way.
Alaric was a really close friend of my dad's, or that's what he led me to believe. The clearing was empty; I walked to the center and spun around. No one in sight. Where could that idiot be? As I pulled out my cell phone I heard a rustling behind me, I froze ready to fight. "Calm down Will It's just me." Alaric chuckled as I turned to look at him.
"What are we doing here Al?" His smirk dropped from his face as I spoke.
"There was a small breach here in the park." He surveyed the clearing as he spoke like he expected something to jump out. But he was right to be on edge because there it was making its way to us from behind the trees. It was what we called a Higlor; it had huge tusks on either side of his snout. The beast stood on four long legs, with a large tail that swept the ground behind him. The Higlor's sharp teeth flashed as he growled.
"Keeeepppeeer." The Higlor hissed at me.
Locking my gaze with the beast I whispered "Arma Parare'." This instantly brought forth my swords. The Higlor hissed at the sight of them, and I couldn't help but smile. Glancing over at Alaric I noted he too was equipped with swords of his own, ready to fight. Alaric then nodded, signaling that he had my back, and charged forward meeting the beast in front of us. I chuckled as I ran forward wielding my swords. It was in my blood to fight, so I can't help but to enjoy this. Adrenaline rushed through my veins as I slashed my sword into the Higlor's side. As the Higlor crashed to the ground two others appeared in his wake.
"I thought you said it was a small breach?"
"It was." Was all he yelled back as he charged forward attacking the first Higlor he came into contact with. Leaving me the other, steadily I dashed forward to attack him. I ducked down as I slid under him bringing my sword up at the right moment. The beast roared in anger as he Charged at me again, I snickered, meeting the Higlor halfway. Quickly I jumped at the last second to bring my sword down tearing through his neck.
Alaric was still dancing with the other Higlor, "Keeper! We will find her; you can't hide her forever. "My anger flared knowing that the Higlor was talking to me. Running forward I Slashed at his throat, I watched as my sword barely made its mark as I crashed to the ground. Alaric then jumped up and sliced his sword through the remaining Higlor's throat. My breathing began to slow as the danger was now gone.
Alaric held his hand out to pull me up, "Well done." I chuckled at his compliment.
"Oh keeper." I spun around to meet the voice who spoke my name. It was a Mort-Krieger; a dark warrior. Mort-Krieger is a Demon that looks almost human. The Mort-Krieger spoke again, "Where is she keeper?" Ah why did they always have to announce my name as they spoke.
"I don't know why you keep persisting; you're never going to find her." A sly smile broke my face as I spoke.
"Will?" Alaric growled, I looked at him to find another Mort-Krieger had a hold of him, a sword held snugly to his throat.
The Mort-Krieger in front of me snickered, "Oh keeper, it's almost time, we will find her and we will take her from you." I growled at him as I held out my sword. The Mort-Krieger Laughed liking the reaction he rose out of me. From behind me I could hear Alaric struggling with the demon who held him. I sliced my sword forward only to have it clash with the demon. So overwhelmed with anger I was no longer able to speak any words that rose to my lips were changed into an animal like growl. I would never let anyone ever hurt her. My mind filled with nothing but rage. Which only distracted me from the fight causing the Mort-Krieger to gain the upper hand, and knock away my sword. I watched it fly as the demon drove his sword into my gut.
"Goodnight Keeper." And the demon was gone, they took Alaric with them. I could feel the life draining out of my body as I lost more and more blood. Tilting my head slightly I could see my swords in the grass. "Arma Parare'." As soon as I said the words my sword vanished as if it was never there in the first place.
All I could do was think about Allyson. I had to keep her safe no matter what. Slowly my eyes began to close as death consumed me.
