~> Astarion is one of many potential companions in the game Balder's Gate 3. Your characters default name if you don't choose one is "Tav" regardless of gender, I try to keep these as ambiguous as possible. At this point you and your companions have survived being captured by ilithids (squids who infect hosts with mind control parasites) and for some reason none of you have transformed yet. Lae'zel, Gale, and Shadowheart are all possible companions as well. If you need visual representations for them they can be found online, as well as images of camp can be found.<~

Suddenly, while you sleep, you get the creeping sensation that something is about to strike. Your eyes shoot open and you whip around to see your elven companion, teeth barred, jagged, and sharp. You can see him now for what he really is. A vampire. Or at least, a vampire spawn. All day your other companions had been hinting, and subtly warning you about not getting too close.

You jump back startled while he curses under his breath.

"I didn't mean to scare you. Please listen to me." He begs as he begins to rise from his position next to you. He seemed feeble and just a bit weaker than you had seen him before. Something has him deeply shaken up, yet, a curious excitement ghosts behind his eyes. At this point you'd been traveling for two days and hadn't seen him eat once. Even vampires can't go forever on an empty stomach. He must have been starving. You look him up and down.

"You need to stay back!" You say as you get to your feet.

"I'm sorry, I know, I should have asked you first. I was just scared you might react badly...." he looked down, for a moment, unable to meet your gaze.

"I've never actually bitten anyone before, my master, he never permitted us to eat anything more than rats and animals."

You began to probe his mind with your new found power. You feel him flinch and scramble to obscure memories. You feel your teeth sinking into a squirming rat while watchful eyes stare on.

"I only need a little. Just enough to feel better. Stronger. So I can hunt something bigger. I promise I won't take anything more than what I need, not a drop." He reassured as his eyes caught the firelight. They looked almost like a cats, glowing a bright orange in the shadows. He was lying, you could tell.

"Tell me the truth and I'll consider it." You growled.

"The truth?" He stammered. "I've told you the truth."

"Yes, but there's more. There's something you're not telling me. You looked a bit nervous, why?" You demand as you cross your arms.

"If I can walk in the daylight, and I don't have to sprint home to my master right away, then maybe I can defy him in other ways too. He commanded us never to drink from sentient beings. I just need to check. That's all. That and I'm famished." He chuckled nervously.

"Ok..." Your voice wary as he sighed with relief, his whole body seemed to relax at your word.

"But only what you need, or I'll drive a stake through your heart." You said with as much confidence as you could muster. Even if he didn't want to kill you there was more than a good possibility you might not make it out of this encounter alive. Especially if this is his first time.

"Of course, thank you so much, you don't know what this means to me." He said as he took a step closer and his pale face came into view of the light.

"Is there anywhere particular you want to go or should we stay by the fire?" He asked as his eyes twinkled in the light. He looked so innocent and reassuring. So trustworthy, so handsome.

"How bad is it going to hurt?" You asked, caring more about the noise than anything.

"I will try to be gentle, but from what I've seen, pretty bad." He spoke softly.
